I bought a friend (NOT an SP) a pink RAZR for Valentine's day and the clerk insisted that I get an extended warranty plan, He said if anything happened to the phone the plan would allow her to get a no hassle over-the-counter exchange for a new phone. So I bought the plan, mostly just to shut him up and get out of the store, the guy gave it to me for fifty bucks instead of eighty.
So now the phone has crapped out. She has been back three times to get it replaced and the guy punks her off. I went in today and explained that the phone isn't working, and the same salesman tells me that she just has to turn it off and back on to reset it if it says no service. WTF? How is she supposed to know if it's not working if it's in her purse or pocket? How is she supposed to receive calls if the phone isn't working and she doesn't know it?
He told me he might be able to get her a loaner and if he sent her phone in for repair it could be two to four weeks before it returns. I reminded him that he had said the warranty included an exact exchange, and he denied it.

Fuck I'm mad.
Fuck Rogers, they fucked me over once before, I should have known better!

Rogers

I actually was looking for a couple of cell phones and finally ended up going into rogers. I needed two phones for two people, I wanted the phones the same but asked them if they could "throw in" a case for one of them so that I could tell them apart. The phone numbers were two numbers reversed from eachother. Anyway, they said no. I don't know why I still bought them from them, maybe intimidation, I don't know, but they were so matter of fact that it was rude. Three hundred dollars later and they could not even give me a case for one, meanies! I since checked out other places that would have been more than happy to "throw in" a case for the sale. So yes, I don't like rogers either.

PS
I also got sucked into buying an extended warranty on one of my other phones by another carrier and they said that they would cover everything. But alas when it did not work and I brought it back......(indepth story is too long) however, they said that there was nothing wrong, etc got it home and you could not press any of the buttons and had to bring it back. Finally they said that they would not fix it because it was water damaged!! I was thinking was that before or after they said that there was nothing wrong?! In the end, they replaced it because of the technicality, but shoot was it ever like pulling teeth.

The end result is this, they will sell you anything as long as they don't have to stand behind it!

One of my work mates at the salt mines told me the razors were known POS's and have a high failure rate. So I'm not surprised when you say yours fukked up.

As far as rogers goes I can't really say they ever fukked me over. I hate their web site lay out, ya just can't fukkin well find anything on it.

Couple that with the fact I was with rogers for a lot of years and it all equaled me switching to Telus.

Good deal on family plan and two LG200 phones for free. So far so good. But man-0-man that first bill with all the hook up fee's and start up shit is brutal. :(

PS: interesting story. I was in the telus store twice, once to check out the phones and once to buy. Both times a few people came in and bought on the spot. All they said is "I just need a god damn phone to make and receive calls, no camera, no music, no games or any of that other bullshit"

I had a V60 that I bought a two year extended warranty for and had the same thing happen to it. The phone started to fail after about 18 months and went in for repair, after six weeks it came back exactly the same. Now I wonder if they ever actually sent it anywhere. So with a month to go I returned it for warranty service because it was cutting out, and it was gone again for five or six weeks. When it came back I immediately tried to use it in the store and it wasn't working. But the clerk said "Sorry, your warranty is up".
And to add insult to injury, the store had phoned me to tell me they were going to give me a new phone. When I got there the clerk had a fresh new phone with my name on a post-it stuck to it, and just as they were about to give it to me the assistant manager overruled him.

I don't bother with that shit no more.

I used to always get the latest phone with all the bells and whistles and all that shit. Those phones are pretty much usless to me as I never used the camera or anything. What I don't like about them is they are all so damn small, thin and fragile. I'm a clumsy fool too.. They are always ending up under car tires, in the toilet, in a puddle or shit like that, or they just break on their own. I've given up trying to get a loaner phone 'cause everyone is always out of them. The guy in the store says 'sure, we can fix it, but we need it for 4 weeks.' Now what the fuck am I gunna do for 4 weeks? Most of the time they won't even honor warranty- they just tell you it's been water damaged and they'll charge you $200 to fix it.

Fuck'n fed up is what I am. I now just buy the cheap ass bottom of the line$50 phone. No warranty, no loaners, no depreciation, no nothing.. when it breaks I don;t give a fuck- I just toss it and buy another one for $50.

I just had my phone repaired at Pacific Cellular Rogers Wireless at Metrotown. It took 4 days and I was given a loaner in the meantime for free so I guess I was lucky. I hear what y'all are saying about the cocksucker sales clerks in the stores though. Smarmy little pricks. I would like to slap the shit out of most of them. They push that extended warranty to the limit. I'm sure they must get commission on it. My phone was luckily still covered by the original warranty (1yr) so the whole transaction was a freebie. Props to the guy in my local store who alerted me to Pacific Cellular. As I said 4 days compared to 2 -4 weeks if they had sent it away.

I replaced my phone for a Telus RAZR two days after they came out. Ever since I've had to replaces it 3 times and waiting for the dealer to get new stock and have it replaced a 4th time. Loose keypad, auto power off are the major complaints.

Consumer's reports does regular product comparisons.

Of cell phones. Motorola's don't get as good a write up overall as the Samsung's and typical of a new product has bugs before they get quality control right.

My current phone is a Samsung that I bought at a booth in the mall for 199.95 and I own it. No more of this three year contract b.s to get a new phone.

Supposedly its a refurbished used model but I couldn't tell it from new and have had no problems with it.

That's the way to go IMHO and just pay month to month for a cell phone plan at like $30.00.

I ditched my house land line and just go with the cell phone for all my personal needs.

The new RAZR phones do seem to be very popular so that means that in no more than a year the Koreans a.k.a Samsung will have a look alike that is cheaper and better quality...just have to be patient and not run out for the newest technology as soon as it hits the store shelves.

Three hundred dollars later and they could not even give me a case for one, meanies! I since checked out other places that would have been more than happy to "throw in" a case for the sale
How else is the salesperson going to make quota if they don't sell you a little piece of plastic crap for 29.95 that cost them 79 cents to buy as an add-on.

The mark up on that stuff is brutal but I got nailed too!! Those little clip ons are handy.

Having said that I reflect back on my first cell phone maybe seven or eight years ago it was a motorola flip top analog model. Would hold a charge for about a day at best and was three times the size of my current phone.

The curve in terms of features and power of these units is amazing.

In developing countries that don't have the hard infrastructure for land lines they are just starting from scratch with cell phones for everybody.

avoid cell phone salespeople

Not to boast (or maybe I am boasting), but anyway, my 5 year old Audiovox is still going strong. Doesn't do a damn thing except make and receive phone calls. No camera, no games, no colour screen, no fancy ring tones. Fine by me.

When the 3 year contract expired, Telus started phoning me at dinner time, trying to get me to buy a new phone, with a new contract of course. Told them if they didn't leave me alone I'd find another provider. Haven't had a junk call from them since.

The beauty of it is, so long as this phone keeps working I get to avoid the salespeople in the stores. Yay!

The RAZR is a buggy POS.
ARRRGGGHHH!!! I wish I'd known that before buying TWO of the POS's.
Motorola told me they have an exchange program good for the first thirty days or the first thirty minutes, whichever comes first. That's right, they guarantee their phones can be used for up to THIRTY MINUTES!
Of course the bottom line is that I can't return the phone to Motorola,I still have to go through the dealer, and since the dealer is a dikwad, that's a problem. Motorola can promise and guarantee anything since they insulate themselves from the end users.

motorola has always had this problem with their phones.....the first generation of any new line may look sexy as all hell but are monumental pieces of shit....it was no different with their first startac or microtac elite (which after 40+ phones is still one of my favorite).....wait for rev 2 and you'll get a decent phone
