So i have a problem.

I have all the free time in the world now that we're working from home, yet I am stressed out from work (probably even more-so than before covid)

I have no motivation to exercise or get into shape, and it's taking its toll on me. I feel like i'm wasting all this extra gifted time I have now.

any ideas/tips on how to initially convince yourself to get off your ass and work out?

If you don't exercise, if you just stay where you are and the stress builds up, your cardio system will go into failure. Your joints will seize up. Muscles will atrophy. You will get FAT. You will not be able to get it up. You hearing what I am saying man? And finally in one burst of nothingness God Will Call You Home. Motivation enough?

Seriously, 20 minutes of walking is infinitely better than doing nothing. Get some headphones and listen to a playlist of YOUR favourites. Up it to 30 or 45 min and quicken the pace. in any weather.
Every part of you will feel better and after a couple weeks, you'll be sleeping better and you'll be more alert. The stress will be manageable. Move on to a floor routine. Get a bike and ride it. You'll notice your clothes will look better on you, you'll be carrying yourself better. Buck up and get an el funko exercise bike, weights, get a VR head set and a subscription to any number of amazing workout routines. After 4-5 months people will be saying holy crap Perbasaurus, did you get a face lift, have you been on vacation? Babes will start giving you 'la look'. Hell they'll even start asking if you want to have a baby with them.

Just do it.

You're welcome.

Get a big mirror and put it in a hallway where you will see yourself.

I’m in the gym 5 to 6 days a week. Before I go to bed my gym bag and all that is packed and I bring it work so there is zero excuse to not go. If you don’t want to do that maybe ditch your car and walk and ride a bike everywhere? You only live once your body is a machine take care of it or old age won’t be kind to you

Find something you like and then the motivation will, come from within. If you don't like swimming don't sign up for a stroke improvement class as you'll hate it and stop going. There are multiple programs online, over Zoom and there are still some being offered in person. Experiment until you find something you like.
Start slow and set reasonable goals. Don't expect to run a marathon the first day you get back to running. As MasterPoonHunter quoted above, 20 minutes of walking is a great way to start.
The health benefits of regular exercise are well documented and you benefit from reduced sick time, faster recovery from injury and better sleep just to name a few.
Good luck!

Have equipment at home. Whether its weights, treadmill, a bicycle to go riding, jogging, whatever. That way the second you think hey I'm going to exercise you can just go do it. No delay. No packing stuff, no having to drive to the gym. Also keep stuff in front of the tv, dumbbells, stationary bike, etc.. Also start watching some shows with people that are in shape or working out.
These are some of the things that motivate me.

Having equipment around certainly provides the opportunity and really makes it as easy as possible physically. Mentally you have to develop the mindset that YOU are worth working on and deserve to and can feel/be better.
And then, as Angry points out, just do it!

Honestly I'm using a better time with the ladies as motivation. Most SP's say that a client's physical appearance isn't the main factor in finding them a good partner. Manners, attitude, punctuality and generosity are all attractive and most girls don't mind the dad bod look (bless 'em). However good upper body and core strength simply make for better sex. Add some physical stamina and maybe I'll be able to try some new positions with an energetic lady. These girls hit the gym and stay in shape and their clients get to enjoy the benefits, I figure returning the favour might make everyone happy and add to my enjoyment.

Go book a $400.00 / $500.00 per hr session with an SP that you really, really want to experience. Pop two or three Viagra to make sure it's a go. Then when you both be nekkid you look down and see that you belong to the Dickey Do Club......that'll motivate the bejesus out of you.

The accountability angle Charlee mentioned works for me. I have a few friends who have informally joined forces to collectively improve our exercise regimen. We report in everyday what we accomplished exercise wise. Most have adopted the 10,000 steps approach. We all give positive feedback for those who reached the goal and encouragement to those who come up short.

I also find, like most, distractions help. When I walk I listen to music or podcasts, when I ride my stationary bike I watch TV. I have found the more I do it, the easier it becomes to the point where I am extending the targets.

90% of it is just taking the first step. You don’t have to see the whole staircase. Start slow, walk around the block, keep it simple.

Or if you’re feeling more adventurous, gyms are open. If you don’t feel like working out just go to the gym and walk through the door. You don’t need a workout plan.

It's an oversimplification but that is what it really boils down to. You just have to put yourself in a position where it can be supported as a habit. If you require willpower to exercise, you are going to lose that fight. People here have suggested ways to establish that habit already, whether it's preparing a gym bag when you go to work, have your gym attire and runners placed where you'd normally get dressed, promising yourself a reward after running X km, etc. Over time it'll become second nature.

Oh man, I could have written this post. Feel as though I'm back to where I was 3 years ago. Back then I was working out to avoid health problems. Since covid, I can't get out of this hole and I couldnt care less about my health. Wtf is going on. My buddies are encouraging, understanding and are passively pushing me back to the gym. I'm almost there.

Just recently I found this, and it is helping me:

I think the best advice to to get up and do something.
1. Start with small walks and make them longer as time goes on.
2. If you drive, park at the far end of the parking lot.
3. Look for short trails to hike on. Level at first, then add some hills...

Getting healthy will never be enough motivation. Unless your doctor tells you're dying, health is never going to be enough reason.

Be shallow. Want to be hotter for women. Want to look 'bigger' when she's going down on you. Want to last longer, or be able to do those positions you can't now. Get an Instagram account and follow some hot fitness models. Don't do it for yourself, do it for the ladies. 😊

Visit a hospital..that should motivate u to stay active and healthy. Best of all, you will realize you're not in your deathbed just yet. However, wallow in the stress and sedentary lifestyle and you'll b there in no time. GET GOING NOW!

ROUTINE.
Dumbbells in the bathroom. I shit, I pump 20’s. I brush, a rep of 25’s. Before shower, 15’s to completion. All curls, not a fucking gym routine. Step on the scale. Plot a dot on the chart twice per month.
Skipping rope by the back door
Guy Yoga routine 3/wk, includes pushups and compound moves
Play outdoor sports 2-3/wk. Tennis or pickleball gets the blood pumping
Run with the dog. He likes it better than a walk.
More dumbbells by the TV. I put them on top of my stack stash. Wanna eat, pump me first baby.
