Exactly. He (SHopao) has a really messed up view of the business and should probably quit the hobby IMO. The girls I have seen that are Filapina are also hard working, all have a straight job and all send money home or to their parents who are here. Some of the parents are aware of what they do. I know a lot more about his culture than he thinks and from an outsider's perspective the fact that children are expected to support their older siblings (atta and couya) as well as their parents resulting in undo financial pressure on the lady should be examined if we are looking into what constitutes shame.

Honestly, that's the type of ethnocentric point-of-view that everyone in the Filipino community despises. I know that all you may think of us as pig-roasting, karaoke-loving, basketball-loving, boxing-loving and Maple living type of the people ... but its shit like that, when you say 'I know more', that pisses everyone of us off.

You have some reading comprehension problems. I never said I know more about your culture than you do. What I said was that I know more about your culture than you think I do. Quite the difference that was lost in your dissmissive attitude. And so I can't spell in tagalog. I still know what the implications of those terms mean, especially to a young lady pressured to support more than just herself. Try being more sympathetic to your own people, who for the most part are wonderful.
All I'm going to say now is that this whole thing is a miscommunication on both our ends. The only reason I'm pissed is it seems my comments have been coming off as condescending to you. .I've been there for a month before. Stood up for my friend's wedding there. I've been in many homes there and seen it from the perspective of a tourist and as a local. Good on you for helping with extended family. I get that it is a social safety net built into the culture. Just know that practically every Filapina SP here is doing the same thing, helping others there too. Some even have to help out with older brothers and sisters who are more than capable of being sufficient. That extra pressure is the only thing I object too.
