Female Condoms

I'm curious about female condoms. I've seen them on the shelves in pharmacies in the USA, but I've never seen them up close or experienced it in a session

For one thing, I'd find it a huge turn-on just to slip dickie in when ready, without any lag time or worrying if the (regular male) condom is on properly or otherwise. Psychologically, I know I'd be feeling it would be more of a GFE-like experience and I may even fantasize that we're being very intimate, as in bareback.

And for the lady, they wouldn't have to worry about "accidental" condom slippage. I think they'd also have a happier male partner or client.

I have posted this in the Health Information forum to get the medical perspective. For Health Nurse: Do female condoms protect the female and male from std's equally ? How much do they cover... up to the urethra and/or clitoris?

I'm also posting this in the Lounge to get feedback from the ladies and guys, from all angles.

I thought there might be less protection from stds  I am curious to see what the health nurse's answer will be... I have read (on websites etc) that female condoms are not considered to protect as well against stds as regular/male condoms.
Personally I don't think they are worth the trouble & are not as convenient & unnoticable as you imagine they might be. They are a hassle & difficult for some women to use, & you can't just slip it in as though you're doing BB, (the penis should be carefully guided into the condom, holding the ring in place, & plenty of lubricant applied), & they are not very attractive looking. It's not like you can just pretend that the woman is not wearing it. They don't always fit everyone & can sometimes be less comfortable... Also they are way more expensive... I dunno, personally I think regular condoms are the preferred method for a reason.

Disadvantages:

- The outer ring or frame is very visible outside the vagina, which can be visually distracting &/or make some women feel self-conscious
- Most female condoms make a lot of noise during intercourse
- Many women find the female condom hard to insert and to remove, & some find it difficult to keep them properly in place
- It is relatively expensive and relatively limited in availability
- It can be possible for the man to accidentally slip his penis into the vagina outside of the condom, especially if either partner is inexperienced in the use of female condoms
-The female condom may feel unfamiliar, different, or, to some, less comfortable or less pleasurable (or decrease sensation)
- *Also, studies have shown there was increased incidence of pregnancy & std transmission (as opposed to other methods, including the male condom), but it is unclear whether this may partly be due to the fact that they (the female condoms) were/are often used incorrectly.*

Advantages:
- The female condom can be inserted by the woman in advance (up to several hours, provided it stays in place properly for that long), so the man does not need to stop to put on a condom on just prior to intercourse
- They are not as constricting feeling to the penis as male condoms

Not too far

Well, the main problem I have with the male condoms is the lack of real sensations, lack of the feeling of a wet vagina + the friction and warmth. Thightness is not really an issue, not form my S sized dick anyway:D

Like a friend of mine uses to say: it's like having a shower with your clothes on...

there was a REALLY good thread about this a couple months ago. Use the search and you should find it. Violet gave a ton of info here but there may be more in the other as I remember a few ladies piping in. I know one real risk is you need to be with a client you trust because it is really easy for the guy to "accidentally" slip into you without being in the condom. But with an older gentleman who has a hard time staying hard, or getting hard at all, they are a great option when used properly and respectfully.

Rube Goldberg Condom

Has anyone ever heard of latex panties with one or two condoms built in?

Compared to the female condom, there would be no risk of slipping in outside the condom, it might look less odd, and would be ideal for anyone who would otherwise want to use a dental dam for DATY. Switching back to front would also be an option.

Would any of the ladies like to try a custom made pair? They could be the next giant leap forward in safe sex.

The last time I got myself tested, January, they had posters for female condoms. I had always wanted to try them but I had never seen them in the store. They gave me a bag full. The nurse did a demo how to use them, with her fingers not actually with her vagina. I asked her if she ever used one, she said no. I haven't had a chance to try them yet.

The ring is pretty big, I don't really know how you could miss it going in, but I have yet to experiment.

Too bad, that would have been a helluva doctor's visit... :D

I don't know if I could ever experiment with a female condom. I don't mind wearing them, I don't find sex any less pleasurable than without one, and it makes for easy cleanup sometimes. To me, using the female one would just feel a little unnatural...

That's an advantage I hadn't thought of, thanks Katlyn! I was thinking that I don't have any desire at all to use female condoms, but this is a case where they might actually work better. I might just have to try that out on some of my clients for whom maintaining an erection isn't realistic. I imagine there would still be the problem of difficulty keeping the penis inserted in the vagina though. (Also, to be considerate remember that not everyone with ED is an "older gentleman" ;) )
