You do know he's not emperor right? He doesn't do all the math himself (even if he taught math). He'll have a cabinet and advisors and seems a little more willing to listen to the experts than his predecessor.

I was laughing, until I Googled it...Why did I just break out in a financial cold sweat?
I wouldn't worry about a financial cold sweat. Sounds like you have seen a few too many Con attack ads.
I would expect there will be some minor shifts in the tax rates, but I don't think you will see anything beyond minor increases.
Sensible taxation is okay, and there is too much paranoia for there to be anything extreme introduced, particularly if they proceed with meaningful electoral reform.

:) I can see why. Cows release Methane Gas which is bad for Climate Change - runaway cow farts will kill us all! Cows are also mostly raised so that evil humans can EAT them. This is clearly bad because humans that consume cows release second hand cow farts that will kill us all! Never mind all of the religions that we are disrespecting by eating cow. ;p

What you need to do is start a Tofu Ranch. You could grow sweet, pleasant little Tofus, save the Climate, respect the religious and be generally loved by the environmentalist leadership. Maybe David Suzuki would have you guest on his TV show. :)

The only time I'm seen on television is when I'm fighting fires...But they don't let me talk.
My language gets a little rough when talking about "Human Caused Forest Fires"
There tends to be a lot of...BEEEEEP-ing editing.

I live in fear of paying 33% federal taxes. NOT. I'm old enough to have paid 37% federal taxes. That was back in the days when the Government of Canada transferred enough money to the provinces, that they could pay for Health Care and even have operating rooms in the Atlantic Provinces instead of flying their cases to Toronto.

The reality is that our current federal tax rate hurts the country and tends to concentrate wealth in the hands of a few.

The candidate was elected by 36% but he does represent 100%. Election is only one aspect of democracy, representation in parliament is another.

I'm aware how the system works, but my point is that it is NOT a democracy. In your example (Burnaby-Seymour) Liberal candidate represents only 36% of the voters - so he has no mandate to make any decisions on behalf of 64%, and hence 64% is a clear majority, he has no mandate at all.

This contradiction can be easily resolved by the second round of election when only two front-runners compete, and one of them will surely get 50+% of votes.
