The big problem in the future is how Canadians are going to pay for it all.
Some things that will have to be done. And its not nice....
There will be a squeeze out of write-offs for tax purposes.
Business taxes will increase in the range of 5 to 7 %.
And GST will increase at least 1% to 1.5%. To be honest I don't look forward to this, but how will Canadians pay for this.

I think minerals (mining) will be taxed more. Stumpage fees for forestry work will increase.
Lumber products will increase more too. Even after the forestry goes back to work, the price of lumber will still increase at home depot. At this price for lumber, new materials need to be found to replace the 2 by 4.

Canada needs solutions to long term employment, not depending on profit margins. If every one has jobs and feels like they are contributing to the greater whole, things could be better. Yes you will see business owner cursing and swearing because it means less profit for them.

The main problem is the global economy. Yes our products will reach more people in the world, but the labour competition is too great and Canadian high cost of labour is its economic downfall. Which means people out of work, with a socialist government supporting unemployed Canadians.

One solution would be for alot of megaprojects (kinda like spend money to make money). Like the site C dam in northern BC. More dams could be built. High speed transit transportation could be built. Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, Regina, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay then southern Ontario. Build Cargo ships (Canada should go for what the US has and has a 1 port of call for any foreign ships), which would increase Canadian ships under Canadian flag (meaning more taxes for Canadian government). Would need need bigger dry docks and facilities to build these ships as the worlds average container ships are in the range of 1100 ft by 160ft. or even bigger. Also need to build more icebreakers for the Arctic. Also bulk carriers to help supply construction in the Arctic for the NW passage.

Another big item will be exploration for high tech metal like aluminum and titanium and also rare earth metals. Also our iron ore/steel industry would be boosted because of the megaprojects.

Right now the Canadian government is building a new class of ship for the Canadian Navy for Arctic patrols (which is 20 years too late IMHO). They will need to have some tempary or even permanent bases for the NorthWestern Passage as the Arctic is opening up and has more ice free days (with global warming/climate change). (Panama Canal to eastern US is about 13,000 miles compared to 7000 over the top of the world (NW passage).

Countries like China and Japan have build icebreakers. China is looking for more free resources and the Arctic is a prime spot to get them.

The Canadian government has to get off its ass and start producing.
