The XX at the Commodore were gorgeous in a sedated sort of way. And Jason Collette w/ Zeus and assorted players at the Biltmore put me in mind of Broken Social Scene when Feist, Emily Haines and Amy Milan were still regulars -- awesome.
As for bal en blanc... well, it's hard to disagree with someone like Prince who maintains that live music involves traditional instruments, but I don't agree that turntables are not instruments when songs are synced up with one another in melodically surprising and rhythmically ingenius ways. Put another way, doesn't a great DJ do on stage what a great producer does in a studio? And if someone is to say that a great producer is not a musician then Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band never happened.
