Food.....yes!!!!!

BigD....I think you are refering to Hermitage......but try Cafe Paris on Denman next time....very authentic French.

Indian...Vij's! .....or if you don't care for ambience, but wnat awesome food, there is a little Indian restaurant at Main and 6th.

Sushi......Tojo on Broadway....or Kamei Royale off of Burrard.

As for Japanese food, I still would recommend Ebei sushi at the corner of 41 and Granville Street (for all you can eat).
If not for all you can eat, I would prefer Sakai on Alberni (undreground), excellent food.

For EI food, I am ok with Samosa Garden on Kingsway...

I wonder if you guys 'd ever try Samba affiliate with Thaihouse. It is a Brazilian all you can eat with people carrying foods around asking you what you like. Also, there is a quite pretty Asian Hostess there...nice body...

This thread is making me hungry.

I love my food & my favourite restaurant is The Reef on Main (at King Edward). I like spicy foods & Carribean definitely fits the bill. I've sampled most of the menu & have never been disappointed. The oxtail is to die for.

Yo Gina:

Leek and ginger soup? Add fennel to it also. Don't be intimidated using a dash of allspice and you must have included either Maggi and/or a dash of worcestershire sauce to taste. I usually do my soup in two batches. Cook first half to a slight reduction and then blend. Use that blended portion as a kind of thickener agent.

Actually, I just finished a couple of bowls for lunch. Add a fresh baguette with sausage and pickled asparagus (a gift from a married couple), as preserves is still a "goilly thing" in my old-fashioned cookbook. It doesn't get much better IMO.

Would love to see you in action in my kitchen . . . have to say also in my bed!! One of these days when you are in Vancouver, who knows?

I do appreciate your articulate response posts, in addition to the more frivolous side you show. You ladies (with very few exceptions) have added a zest to PERB. Let's hope the neanderthals keep busy chasing the odd antelope and stay quiet.

Yo Freddy:

I'm aware of that alleged single negative property of asparagus (apart from the gout connection), but I eat a fresh pineapple weekly and the alleged positive benefits re BBBJ hopefully offset and pineapple prevails. Could require a tasting panel. New thread?

I've crushed my California grapes in years years past. Too much trouble and the only benefit is cost. I'm a label man. Currently into an Argentinan Syrah by Fina Flichman. Best current value and consistency IMO. And this gullet of mine has had lots of plonk under its belt, mostly very good wine and little crap. Actually, my meagre cellar has a couple of star bottles still waiting for that appropriate occasion. A 1961 Chateau Latour and several other younger bordeauxs and a couple of bottles of 1981 Chateau y Quem, the ultimate elixir of sauternnes that forerun this current icewine craze by centuries. When the time is right, let's hope they are still OK, eh?

Yo Griz:

The harmonic balance: Has a certain ring to it. The balance to which you refer is really an age differential. And the gap will continue to widen as both wine and the custodian age gracefully. At least that is the objective.

My real wine favorites continue to be the French Burgundy whites and reds particularly from the appelations of Beaunne and Montrachet.

If the Frenchmen were just a smidgeon less dick-headish in attitude, these wines would be even more enjoyable, when I now only occasionally splurge. (Oh, for the good ol' days!)

Bigd....where is Samba....I luv Brazilian food!!!

spk106

Samba is located at the formerly "The Keg" in the underground on Alberni, the restaurant is right across the famous Japanese restaurant called Sakai...these restaurant all are beneath the McDonald fast food at the corner of Alberni and well, the street name I don't remember, it is parallel with Burrard but one west of it...

Hope you enjoy the Brazilian food and don't forget to commend on the asian hostess...LOL

ummm I don't quite undestand..

VM I didn't say anything about you not liking my posts..I thought I may have been the cause of all of the pm's you were getting ref cooking is all because of my ref to you in my posts...so I was apologizing for that..don't have any intention of "trying to take a shot at you" nor did I say any such thing...where is this coming from..

ps.. yes I realize that you may be having a BBQ but I was under the impression that the advertised place was fictional...Beautiful..but fictional ..as far as the festivities being located there are concerned ;)
