I'm EFFING pissed off! The American Taxpayer's money was given to you to bail your AIG ass and now your paying bonuses to your idiotic employees who thinks they deserved the bonus. Your AIG employees failed miserably in their performance and were also the cause of AIG's downfall and for this miserable economy.
Many people around the world had lost their jobs and some middle class families are living on the streets! Shame on you, how disgraceful and shameful you are you greedy FUCKS!

Yes, in principle it's disgusting, and it makes for good rhetoric, but from what I've heard they legally had no choice. The employees getting these bonuses apparently had contracts which specified what bonuses they would get, and under what circumstances they would get them (I don't know what those circumstances were, but I'm guessing that they involved individual performance measures, rather than looking at the performance of AIG as a whole). Employment law doesn't seem to allow AIG to refuse to pay those bonuses. It sucks, but it doesn't look like they can refuse to pay them.

You guys are missing the point here. AIG was given 150 billion in the bailout and you guys are pissed off at a couple hundred million? Quick math here guys : that's less than 1%. The problems at AIG are not that the execs are getting bonuses, it's what they did with the company.

As far as the bonuses go, consider this : When you are staring at 8 figures regardless of what you do, your lying to yourself if for just 1 second you say you aren't tempted to just go cowboy and grab that bonus regardless of the consequences for others.

Looks like later today the gov't has an appt(? can't remember what they called it) with the exec.'s of AIG and they are having to explain why the bonuses where paid out. It's also been reported that the gov't will/could be requesting the money back, ASAP.

I guess we'll see what happesns later today.

Agree, but many middle class families defaulted on there loans because they wanted a bigger house and a better SUV, sounds like greed to me. The idiots that defaulted on there loans should share the blame.

The same can be said for the idiots that defaulted on there loans. The problems all started from the bottom up. From the home owner in default to the bank, then to the insurer and then to the shareholders of AIG. Now its the taxpayers problem.

The individuals that were stupid with there money or lack of it, screwed it up for everyone else.

Missing the point?? This is about principle. AIG may have been contractually bound to payout bonuses, but the US government/American taxpayer was not. Had proper due diligence occurred, there obviously would have been appropriate conditions set on the use of the bailout money. These companies continue to make a strong case to be just left to rot and file for bankruptcy.

You missed the point completely. Let me clarify, AIG CANNOT be allowed to go under. Less than 1% used for exec pay is nothing compared to what will happen should AIG go bankrupt. AIG is de facto bankrupt already, the US has to keep them alive in a vegetable state, doesn't matter what the execs get.

I've heard that it is a distinct possibility that the IRS is going to step in and tax the bonus money at a rate of 100% if the execs don't voluntarily return the funds. Sounds good to me.

If they ran the company correctly, they wouldn't be in this state. The best part is their willing to take the money! I'd be to embarrased.

They brought back the CEO out of retirement, who use to run AIG 6 months ago for a salary of a dollar a year. Congress is demanding the names of the Executives that are no longer with the company so they can sapena them. In order to retrieve the bonuses paid to them.

Congress is also passing a bill that any bonuses paid out to Exc's from Bail Out money will be taxed between 60 and 90% ( the rate is different depending on what news station you're watching)
