Exterior house lights

Question for my fellow home owners.....where do you stand on keeping your exterior house lights on?

Driving home tonight I was struck by how few people actually use them.

I keep the basic porch light on from dusk til bedtime. If I am having a party, I put on all the outdoor lights. At Christmas I go fuse-blowing Griswald. I too have noticed how few people have exterior lights on at night. It must suck big time to be a pizza delivery guy in the winter, trying to figure out house numbers with only every 8th house lit up

I have exterior lights on (motion activated). Usually keey a few interior lights on all the time. A few others are on a timer.

My address is painted on glass and is lit. Hmm, how often does he order out? The lights for the walkways, stairs, porch and garage are all on motion sensors.

I live in the country so i have a dusk till dawn yard light attached to my house which lights up my wraparound driveway. I leave a light on outside my door if i'm expecting company or if i go away and also leave a couple lights on inside.

Now-a-days xmas light are gonna be LED low consumption so I would go all night with that.

But for basic lighting I keep a few of those 500 watt halogen motion lights around the yard. IMO those orange looking lights, I believe they use a sodium light are lame in a house application.
