Jim's contract is up soon. Does he deserve an extension? He's made some great picks with say Brock Boeser but some bad ones that include Virtannen and Juolevi when we could have had Ehlers or Tkachuk instead.

He's made some bad trades. Gudbranson trade I think he gave up too much. He's given up too many picks when he didn't have to such as giving up a pick and Kassian for Brandon Prust.

People are talking about Ken Holland being available but I think his glory days are way behind him. Holland has created a lot of bad contracts and signing that will hurt Detroit for a very long time…..

Benning has excellent scouting skills but hasn't earned his stripes trade wise. Canucks notoriously have had poor scouting over the years with great picks within their grasp that got away. Maybe Benning can turn that around?

I'd say the hands on approach of ownership has had the expected negative effects. If they would let the hockey people do their job the team will get better. Problem is the fan base has withered away from their years of sell out crowds.

I wouldn't make any changes in coaching, management or at Linden's position.

Benning has made some poor trades but he's also made some decent trades too. So far Markus Granlund for Hunter Shinkaruk is looking good. So is Sven Baertchi for a second round pick. It's going to require a little more time to evaluate last year's trades but getting Nikolai Goldobin and Jonathan Dahlen seem like positive moves for some older vets.

I think Benning has done enough to earn a 1 or 2 year extension. I think Ken Holland's time is long past. The NHL has changed and I'm not sure Holland has kept up. Some of his recent decisions have severely hurt the Red Wings.

On a side note I love listening to TSN 1040 when the afternoon show has on Laurence Gilman. For those who aren't familiar with Gilman, he was the assistant GM during the Mike Gillis era. He was also the assistant GM for the first year of the Benning era. What a great speaker and the insight he has is really good. I like his take from a salary cap perspective. I'm surprised that some team hasn't hired him.

right here and now
Moaning about missed picks is pointless.
It's a crap shoot at best. These are 18 year old kids. Who's a sure thing? You could probably name 1-2 per year that would be bonafide no-brainers
Review the drafting history of every team and you will see plenty of misses.
Juolevi over Tkachuk- give it a couple of more years. The Fin was rated # 5 and that's where Benning grabbed him- and we need D. He was, IMO, the best available player.
That's not to say that Tkachuk and Ehlers aren't both solid players and would look good on any team.
2015-
Is every GM a loser because Matt Barzal went #16? Boston had 3 picks directly before him.
How about Boeser at #23? Did 18 other GMs make poor picks? Or was Benning that much more astute than the others
One could go on and on.
I agree with BBB and wouldn't make any changes
