You should get a new product

My experience with extended warranties is that you get a new product if your item needs consistant repair. You will even get the latest equivalant product if your original is no longer available.

Make sure you get the product replacement honnorred that you paid for.

ALSO - the extended warranty that Vissions offers has a special clause that is very appealing. If you do not need to use the warranty, Vissions will give you in store credit for the value you paid for the warranty.

A nice deal. As there is no risk.

Thank you for all the replies, really really appreciated. I took my laptop to futureshop today and talk to the computer service department. I told the staff that I had to take the laptop back repeatedly for repair and I would like to have it replaced rather than repaired this time. I also explained to him that I am aware of the "no lemon" policy of futureshop and this is the 5th time that I brought it in. However; I was told that the "no lemon" policy guarntees that if the product requires 3 MAJOR repair then they will replace it without a question. Whether a repair is considered MAJOR depends on the assesement of their technician....basically they are trying to say that they have the final say whether they want to replace it or not.

I told him that I am very frustrated about this situation because it will take them approximately one week to identify the problem and another 2-5 weeks to repair it depending on the complexity of the problem. In another word the turn around time is about 3-6 weeks. I have done this 5 times including this time, thats up to 30 weeks (7-8 month) time wasted. He simply answered by saying that he will make a note on my service request form to ask the technician to verify my past history and see if i am qualified for a replacement. He also remind me that if there was any repair done within manufactor's warranty, the service department will not have any record of it because they simply forward the defected product to the
manufactor..... ....what the fuck

So now I am waiting for the technician to call me and tell me what the problem is. Chances are they will say its a minor problem and they can fix it within 60 days so I am not qualified for a replacement....I think what I am going to do is ask them if another problem arises before my warranty expires, that will be the 6th time and will I be able to get a replacement unit by then??

What else can I do? Any recommendation?

read what i wrote above ...
I reread it again, I think its a possibility. Sigh, I look at my warranty receipt, I paid 470 for the extedned 3 year warranty and I still have to go thru this bullshit.... I think i will wait for the technician's call and if they not going to replace it, i will do as you suggested....

Most Visa cards have a feature which doubles the warranty period as well as insurance if you drop it in the parking lot or something. I think it doubles any warranty up to a year.

Visa only has a 90 day protection plan....And only the premium cards carry that feature. And they are pretty good about it because they pay millions of dollar a year for the insurance company for that. I only know this because I use to work for them....;)

bypass everyone else and go to the general manager of the store. the gm's have the power to basically do what they wish in these matters. most not wanting an unsatisfied customer will honor the warrantee. the other peons on the floor are just doing their jobs so it really acheives nothing to get angry at them.

yeah see you have to be careful with that. before buying an extented warrantee read the brochure. most of those are just that, "extended warrantee's" which means all they do is double the manufacturer warrantee of parts and labour due to manufacturer defect. other places do offer more but just be aware of which is which. i would never in my life buy an "extended warrantee" but there are other places that do offer more and with certain items i think its worth it.

money maker

Extended warranties are just a money maker - especially from someone like Future Shop. The only extended warranty worth it, for a computer at least, is on Dell systems. Why - because it gets them to your house next day to fix your computer - no hauling it into Futureshop and waiting 3-6 weeks for the repair. It's cheaper than Future Shop extended warranties as well. Future Shop is anywhere from 300-600, while the Dell is 300-400. Dells "extended" extended warranty will also cover drops or spills. Much more worth it for the money.
The other thing to consider on an extended warranty for any electronic device is how quickly it's going to be obsolete. No sense forking out 1 or 2 hundred dollars of your hard earned money for a 3 year warranty on a device that will be obsolete in 18 months. Put that money towards the new technology instead.
As others have said - you're better off paying a $150 yearly fee for a VISA and getting an effective 2 year warranty (most electronics are only 1 year) on anything you buy on it. What kind of laptops were available 2 years ago... pretty much obsolete when put up against the ones they're coming out with now. Much less expensive too.

what visa or master card do not tell you is that you need to take time out of your day and get three different estimites as to what the repair will cost then send it to them, wait for them to reply and then give the go ahead on which place they want you to take it to based on the estimites.

simply put some items buying it is worth it and other ones its not. the best buy service plan is the same as the future shop one being that they are owned by the same company but i think best buy goes a little bit above and beyond in customer satisfaction seeing as how those guys are not commission staff.
