Their lavish lifestyle resulted in them racking up $4 million in debt, on annual living expenses in excess of $1 million.
Details of the Surrey couple’s finances and their vitriolic relationship were outlined in an interim divorce ruling that was issued Monday.
The couple, who are only identified by initials, own two properties in South Surrey each valued at between $1.5 million and $2.5 million or more.
Their “stable” of expensive vehicles includes an Audi R8, a Porsche Panamera and a Maserati GT. They also own two boats — an $800,000 yacht and a $100,000 ski boat.
The wife met her husband about 10 years ago and they began living together several years later before marrying on June 16, 2012. They separated in July that year.
She had a son from a prior relationship and he had two children from a previous relationship, both of whom lived with their mom.
They had a child together, a son now eight years old.
The wife alleges that after they separated, he cut off her access to cash and credit cards and therefore her previous lifestyle, as well as denying her access to her cars.
The woman, who worked at the Swedish Touch Massage Parlour in Vancouver at the time they met but no longer is employed, claims that he favours the son they had together and has physically assaulted the son she had previously.
She says that her husband, a self-employed architect, bugged her Porsche in order to listen to her private conversations and had experts uncover intimate photos of her communicating with a person in Florida with whom she now has a relationship.
For his part, the husband denied the alleged physical abuse and claims that she is a “self-absorbed” gaming addict who does little if any proper parenting. He accuses her of name-calling aimed at him and the kids, infidelity and damage to or destruction of property.
He also accuses her of petty acts of vandalism including pouring liquid on his bed, spreading cat litter on his desk and depositing broken eggs and dog feces on his Audi R8.
She in turned denied his allegations.
“In particular, she denies any knowledge regarding the acts of vandalism and she denies having taken various items of the respondent’s personal belongings including a Piaget watch, his personal jewelry and a white gold wedding band,” said B.C. Supreme Court Master Ian Caldwell in the ruling released Monday.
Caldwell was asked to deal with a number of pre-trial issues, including occupancy of the two large homes, parenting arrangements and interim support for the claimant and the children.
He noted that one thing the couple had agreed to was sharing joint custody of the children. He ordered that the residence of the children be shared equally and that the parents remain guardians of the kids.
The wife will remain in the matrimonial home and the husband will have the other home. Interim child support was set at $4,500 a month and spousal support at $11,000 a month.
