"Where to Invade Next"

Has anyone seen this? thoughts? Very eye opening and makes us North Americans look sad IMO :doh:

However I don't agree with rehab vs revenge for violent criminals, thats the only thing I don't agree with and am on the right-wing side on that topic, capital punishment for violent criminals especially violent sex offenders, and child rapists/molesters etc. I believe there is no cure for them.

That film made my honourable mentions list for my top films of the year. its eye opening how much better other countries have certain benefits compared to North America.

In fact, there is a country maybe Switzerland or Sweden that treats pedophilia like a mental illness, so they have regular appointment and accept they have urges, but promise and never act on them. They know that pedos are demonized and they accept that its wrong and try to better themselves by refraining and making a life vow. Unlike the US where they hide it all the time and sometimes go after children.

I think the bigger problem with pedophiles in the West is they now have spokespeople who are these hard core apologists for pedophiles. There are several on Twitter who will vociferously defend the fact that they're pedophiles but they're "not going to hurt your kids". They might get some sympathy if they were to say "I have a problem" but instead they champion their rights and promise nothing bad will happen. I mean, if a guy admits he has ties to ISIS and adores their message should we give him the benefit of the doubt?

@Caramel

All the tax structure stuff aside, I think most North Americans hold this romantic view of Europe or other places around the globe because they spend a few more dollars on social issues. Take Paris for example. It's the city of lights, the city of love, etc. Yet you don't hear it's the city of violence & racial tension. Google "Paris Riots 2005". Or people espouse how wonderful the legal sex trade is in the Netherlands yet ignore that trafficking & the ugly side of this trade still exist there. Michael Moore does a great job at presenting one side of the argument.

I want you to think about it like this. To the outside Vancouver is a beautiful city. Snow covered peaks are the backdrop to a vibrant downtown which is nestled up against a coastline where one can go sea kayaking in Snug Cove on a Saturday. It's pure bliss. Or they can see that it's Colombia North, a port for Chinese human trafficking, the most notorious drug area in Canada & hey, kick in some organ harvesting to boot. Not to mention the smouldering racism targeting the "bridge and tunnel people". So what's the real Vancouver? Well it's both. Just that Michael Moore doesn't always present the full picture of elsewhere.

Yup I know its not all rainbows and flowers over there, Micheal Moore even said so himself, he was just picking the flowers from the weeds, just the best things they have. Its still a whole lot better than what we have over here!

Greece is a basket case that can't pay the pensions of it's retired government workers. France is a massive slum once you get out of the tourist areas. Italy's largest industry is having elections. A few years ago, they had 4 governments in 1 year. It's simply not safe to be on the street in Germany if you are a woman, and it's getting worse.

The USA isn't always safe, but a person can stay safe with a little care and a lot of politeness. Ya gotta remember that pretty much everyone has a gun, so rudeness is not the way to go.

I don't know if you can feel safe in the Downtown Eastside, I can - I'm a guy. But, pretty much everywhere I go in Burnaby and Vancouver - I feel safe and am safe.

If you want to really be safe, go to China. Packs of Police Officers everywhere. (always a pack, never just one) Of course, it's a police state and "justice" is very rapid. From committing crime to being executed can take less than a week.

If you want an extensive social welfare network, Finland, Norway and Sweden are where to be. Their politics aren't crazy and their streets are safe for most women.

The worst thing about Canada is all of the people that have never been anywhere, that buy into the idea that we are a terrible place to live. If you want to live in a terrible place, try visiting just about anywhere in Africa. An ABC news reporter was gang raped by hundreds because she went around a corner without her armed guards. Children have children because if it's female it will be raped - they rape goats if a human female isn't immediately available - no girls, no goats - a young boy will do. People die because someone saw a Timex on their wrist. Nobody with any sense displays anything of value where it can be seen. Houses are built with no openings at ground level, stairs to the armoured portal at the second floor.

We have it pretty damn good in Canada.

Look left. Way left.
Just the opposite. Best place on earth. Only believed by anyone who has never been anywhere else. Drink the koolaid. As soon as I'm done milking the money from the land of God is money, I'm gone to Europe. Spaces for humans. Culture and history. Relaxed people. Good food.
Europe sucks! Don't go. More room for me. Stay here on your hamster wheel and where the 1% are the only ones that count.

Parts of Scandinavia for me, followed by Canada. Although not at the top of my 'livability' I'm very happy to be here. The whole cherry picking the best thing from each country doesn't work. Try putting all of that into one country and I'm not sure if a 50% tax rate would even be sufficient. You take some and give some, the flaw in a place like the States is that they pride themselves too much on what was presented to them by the Founding Fathers, oftentimes failing to adjust to what matters in the present.
