I think if he can keep that phrasing and range, it's just a matter of finding a genre that he's comfortable in.

He's very good, but the song didn't fit. Since Idol makes you sing songs of a number of genres, we will see the one he fits.

I am familiar with the original Jennifer Hudson rendition, which I thought was great, but this kid blew the original off the planet. I think the song fit him very well. However, not everyone hears the same thing or has the same tastes, but I thought the kid nailed it.

I totally agree with you. I did hear a couple of pitch problems, but the soul and energy he put in were just outstanding!

Philip Phillips was another one I thought was just incredible. His arrangement and phrasing were totally unique. Plus a vocal that was just impeccable.
