Faced with delays as her team tried to summit Mount Everest, the Canadian woman who died this weekend was urged by her sherpas to turn back because she was tiring but she was determined to pursue her climb, her outfitter says..................

Questions have also been raised as to just how prepared she was?

Also didn't realize just how busy Mount Everest was with climbers. I have always envisioned mountaineering to be a serious sport that required extensive training. I guess people nowadays are becoming more and more bold and risk taking.

In any case, a real sad story.

Interesting. And very sad. Why didn't the sherpas just turn around if it was that bad?

My experience was the opposite; the sherpas (who seem somehow completely immune to fatigue and altitude sickness) were pretty forceful about getting us to push on, despite us feeling tired or ill.

They're almost superhuman when it comes to climbing - they run up and down the mountains in ripped up converse, barely even drink any water, and just eat rice and dal twice a day. Because they do it all the time with such ease, I think it's hard for them to relate to how we're feeling.

I guess since she's not around anymore, we'll only ever have one side of the story.

Experience? What was your experience? Everest? Please share.

I have a book called Into Thin Air. It's about the fateful Everest ascent in 1992 when 14 climbers died (the year and number of fatalities could be incorrect, I'm working from memory here)
The book is fantastic, the sound track for me the first time I read it was Fantomas - The Directors Cut. The ultra dramatic soundtrack was so suiting of the book, I think it enhanced the experience.
Nonetheless, I strongly recommend it if you're interested in this kind of thing. It was written by a journalist who was sent out to summit Everest by a magazine that he worked for. The things he witnessed are incredible.

I've watched a few docs on Everest since reading the book, from what I see fatalities are quite common (more common than I thought, at the very least) and the mountain is VERY busy.

I need to dig this book out and give it a re-read, it's so good.
That was a great read. By Jon Kraukauer (?). Read it over 10 years ago, I think. Amazing recount of the events he encountered. Some people have more money than brains. Think it was $50k to reach the Peak back them (weather permitting)?

If i'm going to die, it will hopefully be during an incredible orgasm, not doing something so laborous, useless and retarded as mountain climbing. Do such people have a secret death wish even they are not aware of?

This woman could have been enjoying monogamous SBBFS daily for hours for life with a guy like lenny, but instead she chooses that vain course of risky behaviour. What a waste!

Hopefully her next incarnation or the world to come is more lucky for her.

No thread would be complete without this point of reference...

To state the obvious:

1. Most threads have nothing to do with sex with SPs or risky behaviours & it would be quite a stretch to relate them to SP/client relationships, or what this site is about, i.e. pooning.

2. This thread does concern risky behaviour.

3. I don't comment on the vast majority of threads.

4. If others do comment on my posts when i post in them, quite often it is they who bring up the topic of BBFS, not me, even when my comments have nothing to do with BBFS. Which suggests they are either obsessed with lenny and/or the topic of BBFS (which for lenny is SBBFS or monogamous SBBFS), &/or they have some other sort of agenda (e.g. consider PillowTalk's obvious agenda). Should pooners have a voice here, or only femi nazi feminists & such?

Capiche?

...... How does mountain climbing turn into commentary on bbfs...... wtf
See above, Sherlock.

So you were just being what you are, e.g. PlayfulAlex, and actually agree with me,
based on your additions of "Right", "Right" "Right", "Right", "Absolutely", "Thank you for the enlightenment..." to my comments?:

It's actually very easy to get altitude sickness if you are unaccustomed to elevations above 6,000 ft. I hiked a good ways up Mount Athabasca and felt very out of it at about 8000 feet. The other guy I was with is a very experience climber and he also felt "off" too. We elected to head back down at that point.

Luvky, or perhaps VERY lucky, for you, eh?

But what's the point? A secret death wish?

If you're referring to my post, I was talking metres. (6000 metres = 20,000 feet)
