LOL. I just pictured ten guys with bags on their heads sitting in a circle with a jade canoe in their hands.

You gotta be kidding. Another study to understand sex trade participants' health and safety concerns? Information that is well known already? Are those our tax dollars being spent?

I can summarize it in one paragraph. It goes like this:

Prostitutes sell their bodies for money (or what they can buy with money). Johns buy sex from them. Some johns are evil and want to hurt them. Prostitutes put themselves in unsafe situations because they don't know their customers. Many prostitutes and johns don't know about the health risks, or have the information wrong. Both prostitutes and johns calculate the risk to their health against what they want, which for prostitutes is money and for johns its pleasure. If nothing adverse has happened, both prostitutes and johns often take greater and greater risks as time goes by until something does happen. Many prostitutes and johns become addicted to the sex trade. Many prostitutes and johns don't get out unless they are faced with some life changing event. Many who do get out go back in, and this can happen many times.

Ok now that you've been told all there is to know about it, give me the money you would have spent on putting together a research paper, renting a space, paying assistants and employees, paying the honorarium, requesting a government grant, taking the time of paid professionals, coffee and cookies, printing and distributing literature, advertising, etc. I saved you a lot of time, and I'm sure your time isn't cheap. You might as well pay me for that too.

If you don't want to give me the money, then spend the money on better things - such as educating the prostitutes on health and safety, or better yet creating programs to help them get out of the trade altogether.

Hey GBM.

Where can I find all these studies on "sex trade participants' health and safety concerns" that you talk about? I seem to have found a bunch o studies where they get SP's view but I don't really see any with pooners? Have I missed something?

perb study

I think all the info. you are going to get on guys that have sex with sex workers is right here on perbs Most guy are very open and honest .. some exageration.. but not to much .. Of course there is always some underling reason for men to seek sex and companianship by paying for it and the women they see know the answer to that better then the man know .
I am still waiting to see an honest study and report on why women are escorts. not that one sided crap that has been put out as the truth .. that even i believed .. untill I got to know some ladies and listened to what they hAD TO SAY .. AND JUST read here on perbs . what they want .. that is true for those that are on here any ways.
Yes there is a down side. i am a wear of it . so are most of use.. hopefully i am not apart of it.

I went. There were alot more people there than I ever expected.

They did a good job of making people comfortable and keeping the discussion on topic. Also, the pizza was pretty good too.

One comment I made about all of this in an email after:
While I agree that some legal reform is necessary in Canada there is
alot of other stuff that needs to be in place before that is going to
be productive. First groups that don't really view sex work as work
need to come around to the idea that it really is productive work.
Once that happens it will be much easier for people to organize
themselves.

I keep saying that but it does tend to be overlooked even by the
workers. This is one service where the workers are very unlikely to
use the service themselves so they most likely don't understand how we
might experience it.

One comment I hear from workers is that its "easy" work. I would agree
with that up to a point. Its physically fairly easy depending on a
number of factors but even under the best circumstances pretty
psychologically demanding. I know that because its actually pretty
demanding for me as a customer and I've only ever seen maximum 4
different people in one month. I can't imagine what seeing 4 (or more)
people a week would be like esp if there are a large number of
unknowns about who you are seeing.

My emphasis of GBM's comments. And I could not agree more with the above.
