That "Asians don't invent things, they copy" is the hoariest old piece of bs yet. It comes from just after the second world war when Japan started making cheap goods to try and get their economy going again.
Look up the Fortune Fleet sometime and Admiral Zheng. In 1403, he had a fleet of ships far superior to anything the Europeans had right up until steam ships superceded sail. His fleet was scuttled by the Chinese during a period of political upheaval but until then he was far ahead of the Europeans in discoveries and was on the verge of "discoverying Europe."
