ERslist and Malware?

Is erslist installing malware? Sometimes, when entering their site a box asks you to agree to the terms. I don't think you can proceed without agreeing.

Recently I've had "install Java " notices or "Install Light Form" (or something similar) which is identified as malware and I wonder if it's from erslist. I'm running firefox 27.0.1

Anyone having similar issues?

Yes, I have had the "agree to terms" message but that's all. Also running Firefox 27.0.1. The message only appears some of the time and thought it was a new legality "cover your ass" message.

Sorry, I didn't make it clear.

Usually malware is installed when you agree to terms. Often you never know it's even there.
Since erslist uses that pop-up "agree to terms", I was wondering if that's where a possible malware installation happened.

Erslist is a paid advertiser on this board. Maybe they need to respond to this.

I run MacScan weekly to cleanse my MacBook's colon. :D

It is a good program that separates the tracking cookies, malware, spyware all separately. This way you get a choice of what is good and bad for your Mac.

While I'm messing around here I just got a phone call by some guy telling me my windows system has been corrupted on my PC. He had a very heavy accent and he wanted to help me, for all I know he is from Nigeria but he seemed to know who I was. I told him I wasn't interested and hung up strange shit indeed!

i'd say he's from nigeria for sure! he didn't know you or your computer - he was just guessing it was a pc (based on percentages) and phishing for a way to get on it. how he got your number is anybody's guess, but there are people working in stores that will sell phone numbers for extra cash

hanging up was the best thing to do

I've had this call a few times. It is usually a guy with a strong Indian accent. They say they are calling from Microsoft or Windows Support and that your computer is infected with a virus or something similar. I've played along a few times to figure out what they are up to.

In the cases I've seen, they asked me to use the Run command to run "eventvwr" and then they tried to convince me that the error messages and warnings are signs of the problem. Pretty much any Windows system that has been running for any length of time will show warnings and errors there, and it generally means absolutely nothing.

Once they have convinced you of the problem, they'll ask you to type a web address into the Run command. This site will download a program that will let them take control of your system - that is when your real problems will start.

use free version ... you will have to run it manually.... but this is all you need... run it once a week.
the paid demo has expiration date ( of course you can always pay )

I never saw a Mac version ... which does not mean that there isn't one

Computers are dirt cheap, a few hundred bucks. No reason to not have a designated computer for things that need to remain secure. The computer that i use for banking does not get used for anything else.
If I want want to check the latest on my favorite pornstar, there's a computer for that and on it I won't store any personal data/photos or use to access anything I want to keep secure.

actually i use combo fix alot...it's great
