Some of you might remember I like to ride road bikes. Not anymore. I discovered electric bikes and some of the ridiculous range and freedom it offers when you can ride in any kind of clothes and not sweat . I just got one and it I rode 20 miles or 32km and had 80% range left on one ride. Maybe down to 70% if I pushed it. I got this one.

I sold all my bikes and probably will never go back to non assist bikes. All the hills in Vancovuer and Seattle just plain suck unless you are going downhill. No more huffing and puffing, save that for some other hobby. I was such a sucker for that carbon fiber, light wheels etc . Those carbon road bikes costs more than my current bike which has a motor! I was had imho. That might be an industry that has some serious profit margins. So with summer around the corner do yourself a favor and get an ebike instead of pedal only unless you live in a apartment and have to heave it up the stairs.

Haibikes are the best get the Sduro line, Yamaha motor and German Designed bikes. The SM model is limited, thats why its 2499 MSRP.

They might be neat for the average slob, but what's the point if you are out there to get some exercise?

Just coasting down hills is fun, but going up is what builds strength and endurance.

I've seen the traffic on Oak street rush hr. I think its faster riding down the sidewalk, plus in your workclothes and no sweating. Its a no brainer.

And, you can have fun of knocking over pedestrians.

I thought cyclists were supposed to use those hokey bike lanes, not the sidewalks.

the Cannondale u once owned has better geometry, imo.
I'll pass on the e-bike as I prefer road bikes for general
fitness and urban exploration.

a shame u gave up road cycling, honda761.

For the weekend just ride for exercise not in a hurry to get anywhere rider a regular bike is fine.
But if you have multiple stops with lots of up hill (basically going from downtown Vancouver anywhere south is uphill until around 30th)
a motor assist bike is great. More useful than those electric "scooter" style bikes as with the motor assist bike you can still get exercise if you want
as you can choose the level of assist. Basically they flatten the hills and make your average speed faster.

The electric bikes are more useful than the 50cc scooters as you can ride in the bike lanes, Cannot do that on a 50cc. Also a 50cc scooter does not require
a motorcycle license. A class 5 is all you need.

Honda761. Did you get the bike in San Diego or is there a Vancouver area shop that sells them? I have been considering adding a BionX kit to my bike. But just for the BionX kit it costs more
than the entire new bike you got.

unfortunatley this would not be a good selling point in winnipeg or i suspect even manitoba . As I found out any form of electric vehicle is not alowed on the sidewalk in winnipeg . Laws may have changed but I used to live near a houseing facility for disabled people . I asked a disabled persons advocate why they insisted on using there electric wheel chairs on the side of the road . Or sometimes even in the middle of the road to get to the local shopping center. He told me that it was becase if they did not use the" electric" wheel chairs on the road Becase by law it is considerd an electric vehicle . our local police would fine them for using an electric vehicle on the sidewalk . Same fine if you decided for example to ride an electric car or golf cart down the sidewalk . I also think it might be illegal to ride a bike on the sidewalk I know our police have fined people in the past for doing so

You guys actually waste money on road bikes? A lot more fun can be had on an all mountain/ XC bike for half the price... But I guess there's no trails in DT Vancouver

I visited a shop specializing in electric bikes the other day, thinking it might be fun to have one. It didn't take long to realize that any I would want costs more than I paid for my motorcycle, or my truck for that matter. Just as with electric cars, I'll wait for the prices to come down to a level where they're commensurate with the functionality they offer. That may not happen before I'm too old to care.

That link is just to show the bike to you guys. I got my bike in Portland, no sales tax. Without question worth the 20 bucks in gas money. Plus that day they had a Ebike demo all the mass produced makers were there.

A long range electric bike is in a way more entertaining than a scooter or motorcycle. Like Today perfect weather, I can take my bike off road, parks, anywhere really and escape being in traffic only vs something with pistons. I'll probably buy a scooter later on but for now its a nice relief to get away from traffic. I ride mainly on empty sidewalks and areas and we have a ton of them here.

You have repeated yourself . You said the same thing twice As well you have been posting links to store pages to buy them . Do you own the shop or have stock in the company that sells these things ?

As I have said your idea of rideing an electric bike down the sidewalk in winnipeg is illegal confirmed by jethro

Yes it is illegal to ride on the sidewalks here.

It is at least a one hundred doller fine just for a normal bike for rideing on the sidewalk I would imagine it would go up for an electric bike.

It just seems a bit odd that this whole thread seems to be you saying electric bike good better than x mode of transpotation
