12 and 13 year old boys! What does this say obout our society? Parent's need to be held more responsible for the actions of their children. I hope the girls sue the boy's parents for all they are worth.

It says our society is screwed up. Too many single parent homes where mom or dad has to work all the time to afford to live, with very little time to spend with the kids. Plus dad or mom don't dare smack the little darlings for fear they will be arrested for abuse.

So if they sue the parents is that really going to change anything.

Although it is absolutely abomanable & DISCRASFUL, I'm not surprise that much. I was not so long ago in that age group & there is this sort of thing underlying in most school enviroments....The unbalanced dynamic between the education system & parental responcibilety is off.... It doesn't matter what age or how compatent you think your child's school is, parents/gaurdians always have sirten obligations to teach....racism,violence against women, stereotyping, theft, vandilism, DRUGS....it's not to be left to the state run education to parent your children. I say this because I went to a deacent Public school with a mixed demographic (richrich Buckingham-Edmonds/Gilford ghetto). Working class kids don't see parenting because life demands work above family & the kids I knew that where loaded....their parents acted like kids themselves & where too busy indulging themselves to watch what the hell their children where into.
Hell Anica, not only is it abomanable it is abowomanable...

Have you ever considered politics as an outlet...

To me, that is your calling in life...

You've got my vote...

Where is the truth?

Another article about the same subject: http://www.canada.com/nationalpost/news/story.html?id=09675bd8-26f9-48f4-9888-7d482ab94c55&k=47563

The mother of one 13-year-old accused said her son told her the "contact" happened when a group of girls joined the boys on the school's basketball court.
She said her son told her he was there when "certain things were happening, but there was no contact on his behalf on that particular day."
"They were touching," said the mother, as she was preparing to leave the police station with her son. "I think from the beginning, he didn't think he did anything wrong because it was a playing thing."
I would be very careful in judging someone or an event by only reading an article in a paper. We all know how the society and some officials are biased in their judgment of acts that involve sexual conducts. In the end, when we were kids, didn't we all play "the doctor and the patient"?
Today some parent may think that his/her kid is sexually assaulted if he/she is playing "the patient" instead that "the doctor".

I agree that the parents should be held responsible for the actions of their children...but when it comes to sexual misconduct...can they really be blamed for it? I find that hard to understand because how does a parent go about telling their kids what is or what is not appropriate behavior when it comes that. My parents and I never had that dreaded sex talk...ever...and it wasn't because they never had the time or were too occupied with other activities. If the boys are found guilty then they should be held responsible and pay their dues.

Geography has no bearing on crime and violence. It doesn't discriminate.
Vancouver is not immune to violence and crime afterall we just were home to two murders on SPs and I bet that a lot of people that live outside of GVRD say,"Thank God I don't live in Vancouver."

'Sexual assult' has a very broad definition

Sexual assault is any unwanted act of a sexual nature imposed by one person upon another.

The article didn't get into what actually transpired between the teens. It could conceivably be something which most of us wouldn't think twice about, but technically fits the defination of sexual assult. Something like patting somebody on the butt.

Whatever transpired obviously bothered the girls enough to report it. I don't think it is an indication of society going to hell. Rather it is a combination of education and sensationalism.

Education in that many acts which were previously considered normal teen behaviour but do fit the definition of sexual assult are being called on. Really - who can say they have NEVER been sexually assulted. Male or female. We have ALL had something sometime happen that fit the definition.

Sensationalism in that the media finds a story, clips and reports it to spin in (usually) the worst way possible. Heck...something happened on the other end of the country and we read about it here because it makes a good story in it's snipped and edited version.

Since there were really no facts in the article, we can only speculate as to what really occurred. However, I do think we are all wise to take whatever we read with a grain of salt.
