I read where season ticket-holders are staying away, and Edmonton fans are quite loyal.

I'm surprised Eakins hasn't got fired, rightly or wrongly, when a team loses so many in a row,the coach usually gets the nine of hearts.

He's a better coach than Eakins.

Right now the Oilers would kill to have any of those winning percentages.

on yer ignore list
In October they ran off 4 wins in just over a week homestand:
3-2 win over the Lightning, 3-2 win over the Capitals, 6-3 Win over the Hurricanes and 3-0 over the Canadiens

In November on the road They Beat Buffalo 3-2 before Beating the Rangers 3-1 on Nov 9th.. That was their last win.

6 Wins all against Eastern Division teams. 4 at home 2 on the road.
what this says to me is that the players are on strike against management, demanding that changes be made to the management organization. i mean they are showing by those wins against the eastern teams that they CAN do it - they just WON'T do it until changes are made

just like the canucks were on strike against torts and gillis last season

Oklahoma City Barons head coach Todd Nelson will be taking over on an interim basis after a brief transition period with general manager Craig MacTavish behind the bench.

Maybe they'll move to Abbotsford or Red Deer. Lol

Guess Gary Betman's dream of an NHL team in Oklahoma City is a step closer.
Badge.....I would prefer to see Vancouver's farm team enter Abbotsford rather than the opposition. Cow town's farm ( Calgary ) team already failed in Abbotsford so, with certainty, Edmonton's team would fail as well. Just my opinion of course.

I think we here are aware Vancouver's farm team would benefit in the Fraser Valley than any other NHL affiliate. I'd be estatic to see Vancouver's team play in Abbotsford. I would support it.

Ohhh ahhhh so he's contacted public officials about building a new rink for his team using some of his own money and ohhh whats that. He's spending a quarter of his money and he's leveraged the rest on Ticket surcharges and City funding.. Yep knows a lot about hockey and the important side of running a team.. PLEASE!..lol

He has a lot of money so he owns a Junior and an NHL team. Big fucking whoop te doooo. The NHL team he tried to purchase on several occasions from the group of people that owned the franchise previously, had to offer more and more because of his obsession with the oilers. He's a fan with a lot of money. Now he's a big league "player" ohhh ahhhh. No he's a small market owner ohhh ahhhh.

Obviously his love affair with Kevin Lowe and the Oilers alumni has clouded his business judgement. If he ran the Oilers like he runs Rexall drugs. Well lets just say shoppers drugs and london drugs would have a lot of happy customers.
Katz gets a new arena largely funded by public money. He gets to operate that arena and collect the revenues from that operation. Yep, you know more about the hockey business than he does.

BTW. The franchise Katz bought for C$200M in 2008, is according to Forbes, now worth US $475M. You're right. He paid too much!

Frustrated Oilers fans post 'Lowe must go' newspaper ad. (cbc)
http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/edmon...fans-post-lowe-must-go-newspaper-ad-1.2879751

Dear Mr. Katz:

We have listened to the promise of better times to come and stood vigilantly by this management group for far too long now. Changes need to be made at the highest level of the Oilers organization before this time can ever expect to improve on the ice. The laundry list of fired coaches, general managers, equipment managers, trainers, and players is evidence that there is only one man who remains untouchable and unaccountable in this organization – Kevin Lowe.

No one man has been with the organization through the entirety of the nine years of sub par performance other than Mr. Lowe. If you expect accountability from the player on the ice, then must be accountability from management off the ice.

A barrier has developed in the minds of Edmonton Oilers fans over the past eight-and-a-half years of missed playoffs and low place finishes. On one hand we support our players, on the other, it is becoming increasingly difficult to believe in this team so long as Kevin Lowe remains a part of the organization.

Mr. Lowe needs to be removed from this organization immediately. This is not in any way directed at Kevin Lowe as a hockey player and his 6 Stanley Cup rings, or Kevin Lowe as a person. This letter is highlighting the deficiency in the team created by allowing Mr. Low as a person. This letter is highlighting the deficiency in the team created by allowing Mr. Lowe a seemingly infinite amount of time and resources to build a quality hockey team. This has created a losing culture that now accepts repeated failure as a part of the process.

We have been loyal to the Oilers throughout many years of hardship. It is time for you to show that you not only hear what we are saying, but that you care about holding your management group accountable, so that the city may once again enjoy watching a competitive NHL hockey team.

Signed: The Fans

Brought to you by: The Kevin Lowe Must Go Facebook group

Lowe is the one that should be fired. He's cleary shown he can't make the right decisions for the team.

Katz will make tons of cash but it won't be from the Oilers. It will be from all of the prime downtown Edmonton real estate he's purchased around the area. The Oilers are pocket change compare to the 71 story Edmontonian, 52 Story Luxury Hotel, 62 story Stantec Place, 56 condo, ect...

The Oilers are not prize here.

In May 2007, Katz made a $145-million bid to buy the Edmonton Oilers franchise, which the owners of the team, the Edmonton Investors Group (EIG), quickly rejected, stating the team was not for sale.

In July 2007, he made another bid for the Oilers of $185-million, which was turned down by the Edmonton Investment Group (EIG) on August 7, 2007. On December 12, 2007, Katz made an offer of $188-million to the EIG. The Board of the EIG announced in January 2008 that it would again recommend to its shareholders to reject this latest bid.

On January 28, 2008, Katz increased his offer to $200 million and extended the acceptance deadline to February 5, 2008, at which time Katz was notified by the EIG that all its members agreed to sell the Oilers to him, pending league and financial approval.

Soo ohhh ahhhh he bought an NHL team in Canada, with no plans to sell or move it.

So he has money that he can burn, big deal. Still doesn't know hockey. He's Just another fan . Nothing more a fan with big pockets and an obsession with Oiler Alumni.

All this crap and garbage you keep throwing up. None of it sticks
I can accept your point that he may not be knowledgeable about the "game" of hockey. My point was he knows far more about the "business" of hockey than you do. He is making one helluva of a lot of money at it. You seem to prefer to go into Bluster John mode though rather than attempt to logically refute my argument. Merry Xmas and may your new year be as profitable as that of Mr. Katz.
