Wondering if any of you out there own E-book readers? Whether they be Kobo, Sony or Kindle etc. Thinking of getting one but not sure where to start. After moving a few months ago my book collection got carelessly thrown out, so I'm thinking of updating and going with electronic print instead of paper. Saves a lot of room lol.

Ideally something that has a large memory and long battery life, maybe music function? I'd also like to be able to put downloaded ebooks, documents etc onto it as opposed to being limited to only downloading from a store. Thinking of maybe the Amazon Kindle but kinda hesitant to shell out $300 for something I might end up wanting to chuck out the window lol before getting some more opinions.

If you can wait I'd say pick up the Kobo Vox or a Kindle Fire (whenever Amazon decides to release it in Canada).

I use an iPad now but want to downsize to a 7" tablet.

Yeah, I think I'll pick up a kindle now for my basic reading needs while I wait for the kindle fire's descendants to pop out in the future. Kinda bummed that a lot of old sci-fi/fantasy novels (lol from like the 70s and 80s) can't be found on most ebook sites...and a lotta the authors are dead...

Figure out where you plan on getting the books. I have a kindle and love it. I think the new kindle will is a waste of money as a reader as it no longer uses e ink i believe. There are several libaries on line that are pay to use. or download from the same place you get mp3s

The nice thing about the kindle is the screen is glare free and it's easy to bookmark exactly where you are in the book you are reading. On the iPad, there is a kindle app - but for some reason it's a lot harder to bookmark where you are in the book. The iPad also keeps trying to force me to use iTunes to get books instead of Amazon or one of the free sources like Baen, Library of Congress, Project Gutenberg, etc - - it get's annoying real fast, especially when it denies you access to a book that you are reading. That's why I started carrying the Kindle again, despite now having (at times) a laptop, the iPad and the Kindle with me.

ps reading a book on the laptop is even more annoying than using the iPad. You simply can't set a bookmark and have it stay set. Never mind the size and the hot lap you get trying to read a book on the bus.
Went out and bought a Kindle, already loaded it with Project Gutenberg books that I haven't read since I was a kid lol. Only beef is that you can't organize the books into more of a library kinda format...you can add to collections, but it all looks kind of messy. Lol really really messy. You can 'add to collection' but it's still kind of messy...Still though, really enjoying it. Really like the paper e-ink look. Kept poking the screen cause it looked like I was reading a piece of plastic paper haha.

Well, it's a handy little thing to have. Maybe down the road the kindle's offspring will come out with another glare-free gadget. :D
