Argueably the greatest sci-fi novel of all time is Frank Herbert's Dune. For the 3rd or 4th time, I have lost count, they will attempt to make a movie or series that in some small way measures up to the novel. Here is the IMDB link to this latest attempt to be released later this coming fall:

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1160419/?ref_=fn_al_tt_1

And to show just how popular the novel is, someone has gone to the effort to list 100 of the best quotes from the book:

https://bookriot.com/best-dune-quotes/

I especially like:

“You’ve heard of animals chewing off a leg to escape a trap? There’s an animal kind of trick. A human would remain in the trap, endure the pain, feigning death that he might kill the trapper and remove the threat to his kind.” p. 9

“What has mood to do with it? You fight when the necessity arises—no matter the mood! Mood’s a thing for cattle or making love or playing the baliset. It’s not for fighting.” p. 35

"He who can destroy a thing has real control of it.” p. 446

“The test of a man isn’t what you think he’ll do. It’s what he actually does.” p. 451

I'm a fan..but more excited to see how Apple TV+ does with Asimov's Foundation. If its good, there's a huge depth of material to go through. And if someone does something good with Iain Banks Culture books I'll die and go to heaven. IMHO the best sci fi books out there.

The next Dune movie will be directed by Canada's Denis Villeneuve, who has had a stellar run for the last 10 years - Incendies, Prisoners, Enemy, Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, Arrival. All critically acclaimed. Plus he's a dedicated fan of Dune - the 1984 version by David Lynch actually inspired Denis to go into movies. So I'm really looking forward to the latest release.

The 1984 version did have it's good points. Sting's part in the movie was interesting, let's say.

The guild navigators were cool in the Lynch version, but thats about all i liked...even the 4 hour version didnt really give you insight into Pauls metamorphasis.

Lynch's Dune had the style that appealed many into it's cult status; but thanks to constant studio interference that began well before Lynch took over the final product was a disjointed mess of a story.

"Jodoworsky's Dune" documentary was a very interesting concept, and would've love to see how that played out instead of Lynch's version.

The made-for-TV mini-series did well to tell a complete story, but the special effects were horrible, the desert scenes was basically a mound of sand in a studio warehouse with a green screen in the back; really cheap SFX.....but I guess it was good enough to film another mini-series "Children of Dune"...

This new Dune, filmed by Denis Villeneuve, who in my opinion is the best directors working actively today (Blade Runner 2049, Sicario, Prisoners), might look good but I'm just not feeling the actors all that much.

Hobbit, Hobbit, Hobbit says the frog..... Fantasy
Marvel Movies? Seemed to have grossed more in revenue. Although marvel came from comics.
The thing is does the director have the budget for the background effects which seem to go hand in hand with the story line.

Again this universe will be drowned out by others, like Star Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and other sci fi movies/shows.

Also the way directors and the movie industry like to put their own spin on a classic novel always hurts the movie. The more you try to twist the original into todays beliefs/political correctness, always hurts the movie turnout.
I'd like to point out Robert Heinlein book StarShip Troopers. The movie never reflected the content of the book. Also the soldiers in the book had jump packs and nuclear weapons which could knock down buildings (yes the bugs had buildings) or seal tunnels with nuclear weapons. The cheap effects for the movie, no jump packs, no alien cities, no individual insertion pods, and the major theme of the book was to be a voting citizen, you had to contribute through the military or government civil worker and only after your service were you allowed to vote.
