...for a hobbiest the only useful thing in Duncan would be the highway that takes you to Victoria :p
Oh how I love that response. If you live in Drunkin Duncan what is a 30 minute drive to find the best Ladies in Canada. I know that gas is getting expensive but if you want the best, get your butt down here. ;)

Actually, there is at least one very talented lady who is happy to visit you in the Duncan area.

A simple search will give you the result.

I happen to live in Duncan, have for the past 2 years. I have travelled extensively to many places around the globe in my "career" and have established a good reputation amongst the right people. I moved up here because my father was dying. I still happen to be in the business and to me a comment such as the one you have made is insulting and just bad form. I don't care how popular you are on this site or how many clients you generate, what gives you the right to make negative comments about someone or somewhere else when you really have no proof about the quality of anything from every similar service there? When I owned my own escort business back in the heydays of the 90's I would never have made a bad comment about another SP business just because of the area it is in as there is already enough negativity out there about this industry and I was always of the mind that we all looked out for each other. A much more professional thing would have been to say "I don't know of anything up there but Victoria is only about 40 minutes away, it would be well worth your while." Perhaps as you get older and gain a little more perspective and business acumen, as well as learning when to talk and when to be quiet, you will understand why I found your comment a little offensive and out of line. How would you feel if someone made a disparaging comment indirectly about you but that could affect you directly because of where you lived and because they were generalizing your entire area, yet they had no idea who or what kind of person you actually were?

Yes, a lot of people in Duncan drink, but not everyone is the
stereotypical "Duncanite" and Victoria is not the only place quality exists. Victoria is known as the crack capital amongst other islanders. Does that mean you all do crack down there? No... of course not, but it's becoming a stereotype. I've done everything I can to dispell that opinion amongst people I know and meet, but why bother if you people down there are just going to dis all of us up here?

Beleieve it or not I had mentioned Jamie as well as a couple others down there to my out of town clients, even though I had never met the girls but because they had good reviews on this site, I thought they would be a good match for the client based on the reviews I read. I regret ever doing that, but you know what...I'll keep doing it because that is what's professional and I know everyone is not the same way, no matter where they live and work. There are many wonderful ladies in Victoria that can be recommended, and to those ....I will continue do so, but I will be even more selective in my reccommendations. You may think it's not important or you won't care if I reccommend to my clients, and there will be those that will probably just blow me off, and decide they don't like me, but if you knew me, you would change your mind because of who I am and who I know. That's not boasting, it's the truth. I live in Duncan and I keep a low profile but that doesn't mean I'm low. So if you are directing clients your way, at least don't do it by being negative about others, either directly or indirectly. There will be those who say they don't need any help from me, that they do just fine on their own, and that may very well be but EVERYONE can always use a good reccommendation and more business, and there are some who deserve it.

yawwwwnnnnn...do yourself a favour and drive south

How would you know about everyone this side of the Malahat? Have you seen them all? I know I have never seen anyone from Nanaimo, so please don't make negative comments and generalize when you don't know everyone. You could instead say something like "In my exprience, Victoria is the place to go", or "I think Victoria is probably your best bet." Those are just some examples.

Should I tell others who drive from up island to do their shopping, "don't bother driving to Nanaimo to shop or conduct your business, they're all a bunch of red neck dirty hillbillies living in a dirty highway town, (because that is an opinion of Nanaimo from many long term Islanders), go to Victoria instead, it's much better?" If enough people said the same thing, It would affect the business in Nanaimo and thus affect the entire community. I wouldn't do that because I know there are good businessess and people in Nanaimo and I know that I have not seen or dealt with everyone and every business in Nanaimo, so I can't be judgemental and tell people to skip it altogether.

You seem a little testy this morning.........
I am not trying to be "testy", I wasn't even upset, I was merely trying to show the correlation between negative comments on a general area and the effects it has on potential businesses in that area. I am not trying to start anything, I am just trying to impart some feedback so that people become more aware of how they speak and what they say. I have always been of the mindset that one should be respectful to those they see on the way up, because one day, they may very well meet them on the way down.

You don't hear Safeway bad mouth Save On in public etc.... because they know that although they are competition for each other, there is enough of a market share for all to prosper. There is enough business for everybody without dissing others. No more, no less, no anger, no testiness, just defending what I beleieve are one of the principals of business success. (knowing that you have a good product and you are secure enough in your own right, to not worry about your competitor ,and not feel the need to diss them , especially if the only reason is the area in which they operate, in order to try and attract more clientele for yourself).

...and that was, in fact, all it was.....

I am sure I am not the only one surprised that you exist Carly. :p

Welcome to the board.
It's ok Jamie.... I wasn't mad, I just wanted to express my opinion. I hear you are a very pleasing gal and I only wish you well. Not many know I exist here, but the ones that need to know....do. I keep a low profile because that is what works for me. Happy profiteering kiddo........:)

The name "DrunkenDuncan" came from the fact that there was a number of hotels with bars in the area of Trunk Rd and Duncan Ave by the railway tracks in Duncan. So when you went out at night you told people that you would meet them at Trunk and Duncan. It became slurred over the years to DrunkenDuncan. :D

Carly - Jamie, for a minute I thought I was going to have to come back down there and hold you two apart. :D

Actually thats Canada Ave. The bar and hotels to which you refer were the Tzouhalem, aka "The Zoo" on the corner of Tunk and Canada Ave (a parking lot now), and the Comercial on Canada Ave (now its the Phoenix).

The nickname is Drunken Duncan because back in the day, they were the more popular bars, (strippers), along with the Village Green and a lot of people came to drink and see strippers from the surrounding communities, Chemainus, Crofton, Lake Cowichan, ect.

For some reason the cheap beer, Lucky Lager, remains quite popular with those who actually remember the good old days, when we would skip a class and fake I.D. into the Zoo and watch a girl also skipping Algebra, lube the brass pole. The white and red cans are synonamous with the growing up in Duncan experience.

The town is overcoming its stigma by sheer expansion and population growth, and a lot of the newer people there have no idea about the glory days of debauchery. A lot of good people were born and raised in the Cowichan Valley, including some very skilled drivers and car builders.

This should fill everyones 'Useless Info' quota for the day.
Cheers!

Duncan history

This is not the usual place for local historians to frequent but I can't help thinking that archivists and historians could do worse than harvest stories from this thread... The real Duncan, not as it is described in the "official" histories...
