Literary composition. Putting the word dumb in front of drinks snacks or the main signage doesn't make it satirical.
When weird Al Yankovic writes a parody song. That is based off the literary interpretation as defined by the dictionary of what a parody actually is.

Just by placing the word dumb and serving bad coffee isn't a parody. Only thing you are doing is making fun of those people who work or go to starbucks franchises. It's not so much a parody but rather a cruelly making fun of people trying to make a living. Is starbucks a cult like the moonies?, NO! Are they a major corporation that employees people giving them a decent living for serving coffee. Maybe so.
A parody can also be a poor imitation of something.

Which? I'd guess that the closest fit would be #8, to imitate poorly or feebly; travesty.
Yup. I bolded it but I guess it didn't work.

They cannot. Legally it is not a coffee shop. It is art. Parody Art. The coffee they sell the the art.

I will keep on top of the story, though.
that's for a court to decide, not the shop's publicist... just sayin' :)
Agreed. You can say anything you want, but clearly there are copyright infringements on many fronts here...regardless if it's a "parody" or not. Starbucks' lawyers will get the last laugh on this one.

Still, I don't know how Trader Joe's ending up losing against Trader Jacks or whomever that guy is in downtown Vancouver who sells TJ products.

Ugh. I will never understand how that murky piss became Canada's favourite coffee.
I wouldn't go as far as to call Tim Hortons murky piss but yeah I never understood its popularity here either. I've always been a Starbucks guy myself, even my coffee beans come from Starbucks. Interestingly enough, the only people I know who are into Tim Hortons are people who were born and raised in Canada.

Maybe it's cause Tim Hortons is cheaper that it's more popular?

I have heard people call Starbucks bitter and too strong. Personally I like a good strong cup of black coffee. Espresso if I can.

Tim's coffee is just loaded up with heavy cream and sugar. imo

I used to work at a non-chain coffee place. It was located very close to 2 Starbucks' and a Tim Hortons wasn't far away. Once a regular customer asked me what I'd order, which while flattering and all I don't think asking someone that works there is very useful since people have different tastes and my boss might be an ear shot away :p, so I made the remark that I wouldn't buy coffee there period and just go to Starbucks instead. He made a remark and referred to them as "Charbucks" and I know they weren't the only customer who felt that way. McDonalds capitalized on that big time. That's why Starbucks introduced their Blonde Roast (which I personally don't like) but is a lot closer to what you'd get from Tim Hortons or McDonalds, prior to that they only offered medium and dark.

A friend of mine who is a big coffee connoisseur says drinking coffee black is the proper way of drinking coffee. I usually only use a smidget of milk in coffee but black is fine by me too.

Oh I guess I referred to them incorrectly. I was calling them Stuckupians not starbuckians. Sorry, no wonder I got asked to leave the cafe. All this time I thought it was the timbit and coffee I was holding

There are as many proper ways of drinking coffee as there are proper ways of making coffee. I prefer traditional coffee, which you cannot seem to get in commercial establishments.

Fresh ground beans do help, but you need a proper coffee mill. I use the same commercial mill that my great grandfather had in his store in the 1880's. The ground coffee comes out like fine flour.

Add a tablespoon of grounds for each cup, plus one for the pot, to a coffee pot. Not a percolator or drip machine. Just a pot. Add cold water over the grounds and bring to a rapid boil then let it steep for a few minutes. Add a splash of cold water to settle the grounds & serve.

You can get close to this with a French press, but the flavour is different because the grounds are coarser so the full flavour isn't released.
add a heaping tablespoon of sugar per cup and a pinch of salt and you've got tex-mex cowboy coffee, pardner! or as i've heard it referred to, cowboy gatorade :thumb:

it's what gets you through those 140 degree F. days with your sanity intact!
