Hate to burst your bubble but very little (relatively speaking) oil and therefore they decided to be a tourist/economic center. Been there twice and its an amazing emirate (there are 9 believe and hence UAE). This is one city where you can taste any flavour of poon u want for under $200/all night.humanfly009 said:One word.... You got that right. After Saudi Arabia Dubai is probably next.Cock Throppled said:Looks like one big target to pissed off terrorists who see them importing The West.
Actually, its all oil. Dubai is the most liberal and westernized area in the entire region. As a result, any business which relies on expertise from Europe and North America has decided to locate their base of operations there. Dubai itself is very small and does not have any of its own oil, but they have the companies.HeMadeMeDoIt said:Hate to burst your bubble but very little (relatively speaking) oil and therefore they decided to be a tourist/economic center. How do you explain terrorism in Saudi Arabia, one of the most repressive and controlling coountries in the world? I know some of it is state-sanctioned by the extremist Wahabis, but there has also been an ongoing war against the Saudis by small factions of terrorists. They are ruthlessly crushed at every opportunity but somehow manage to coontinue.yoyo00 said:Terrorism is a rarity in the GCC... the governments won't stand for it. Don't fall into the consiracy theories about payoffs and such. Its a safe place and the terrorists know who the real enemy is. Plus, should they ever attack - life as they (the terrorists) know it is over. They would be exterminated in the blink of an eye. It would cause a very large disruption in international financing of their growth and basically - all of the expats would be too scared to go. Bad for business.

Sorry, tell me the last time an expat was killed in Saudi by a terrorist? I may be misinformed or I may have communicated my point improperly.Cock Throppled said:How do you explain terrorism in Saudi Arabia, one of the most repressive and controlling coountries in the world? If something isn't reported in the Western news, then did it really happen?yoyo00 said:Sorry, tell me the last time an expat was killed in Saudi by a terrorist? I may be misinformed or I may have communicated my point improperly.
Saudi Arabia is a very repressive state. There are many within that country that wish to overthrow that dictatorship. There are terrorist acts to undermine the government. How do you explain terrorism in Saudi Arabia
