Can the sim cards be from different companies? Or have to be from the same vendor eg. Telus, Bell, or Rogers, Fido, etc.

I would think not, since the ESID of the phone is what is registered with the provider, Not sure if you can register the same ESID with 2 separate providers.

Was reading CB thread on phone number. Was wondering how the dual chip/phone number worked?
Good resources linked but make sure you get a text app that can handle dual Sim. Or else you'll be getting some very interesting replies from your SO or your SP.

TextNow is the app that deleted my account yesterday for several hours and then "changed their mind." I wouldn't rely on them. Although I guess as a pooner, losing your number is way less devastating than for an SP.

I ended up signing up for a dual SIM. You can see all the texts to both numbers in your inbox, so you'd have to keep on top of deleting any nefarious convos if you have an SO. However you can remove the SIM card and that means you stop getting any texts or calls from the number associated with the physical SIM (so say, pooning number), but keep getting them for the eSIM number which is part of your phone (so, personal number). So technically you can have a secret SIM card that you can put in whenever you want to do sexy stuff with pros.

My physical SIM number is my new work number, so whenever I cross the border I can just whiz through my messages, delete all the work convos, take out the sim, and hide it in a sock or whatever. Easy peasy.

There are a couple of ways to approach this.

My preferred method is unlocked (some countries still service lock) dual SIM capable phones.

This generally means I have to buy outside if the service provider but Amazon and other suppliers these days have listings for many models from mainstream manufacturers such as Samsung in dual SIM versions.

My main handset right now has both Canadian and UK SIMs installed.

You can set which service SIM is default for most services such as Calls, Messaging, Internet access and its easy to change the default or a use by use basis.

I may stand corrected on this but I don't believe I've seen Dual SIM iPhone available outside of China so you may be limited to Android for this.

If your phone is unlocked you should be able to run any SIM that will fit.
Since 2017 CRTC states that when you buy a phone, it has to be unlocked.
The provider who sold you the phone cannot charge for unlocking your phone.
TELUS, Rogers etc.

My solution.... I dug out my old iPhone 4... took it to a Public Mobile rep. Cleaned everything off the phone. Zero apps, Zero photos... 10 bucks a month. It works and I keep the phone hidden under thinks in my mancave. I only maybe take it on the road when on a pooning adventure... 90% of the time it is out of sight and turned off..

I used to get speakout sims from 7-11. I have not visited anyone in over a year due to COVID, my sim expired and I cannot find them at 7-11 anymore. I don’t know if it’s because I moved to the tricities and maybe only Vancouver 7-11s keep them stocked or what, but I’ve been to 3 different 7-11s from Burnaby to Coquitlam and nothing.

No problem finding Speakout sims at Vancouve 7-11’s I have gone to. Weird. Maybe gansta’s bought them all up from Boundary to Poco.

So long as your phone is unlocked, u can run any SIMs on them, even from 2 different cell providers at the same time. My last phone had dual SIM and I would run a travel SIM when I was abroad.
