A police department has trained Birds of Prey to control the drone problem

I saw this on tv this morning with commentary in English from the Dutch police department. I LOVE raptors...one of my favourite subjects to photograph!

I took that on the manmade wetland behind Surrey Lake while I was living in Fleetwood last summer. The eagle is defending its nest & the chicks within it from the hawk. The hawk also had a nest nearby in the same habitat. For the herons, it was ideal. The eagles & hawks compete against each other for what the owls don't hunt, or that they drop, and leave heron chicks alone!

I love watching eagles and have seen Falcons in the Okanagan. Amazing raptors as well as some owls too.

I used to go out photographing them in the wild. They are all territorial vs seagulls, Ravens, crows etc.

I could see a raptor not taking kindly to a UAV encroaching on their turf.

Having said that, flying kites or UAV's is a lot of fun. One just has to be respectful of where it's being flown. I had one up in the Gulf Islands and found it was unwelcome about 5 minutes into the flight. Eagles were buzzing it so I landed and put it away.
