so who here draws or does art of some kind?

Do you do best when you are imagining things? Or do you draw best the things you know?

One of my classes is figure drawing (human body) and this is actually my favourite though I'm not sure if it is my best or not. I have found I REALLY struggle with the boob area! I think it is because since I don't have much, and what I do have has never been a focal point of me or anyone else, I have not paid too much attention.

I can draw legs, the stomach area, and backs amazingly and I realize these are the parts of bodies that I like the best which means I have looked at them the most. I've also found I can draw birds, but not squirrels for the same reason. And I can draw leaves but not whole plants.

So now I am trying to be more purposeful when I look at things. Whatever I find I look at naturally I am forcing myself to look at the rest of it (ie looking at how the leaves interact to make that plant).

When it comes to women's bodies though I'm encountering some bashfulness. I feel really uncomfortable staring at their chest...how do you guys do it??!

heh

If your drawing in pencil then i would suggest black and white photos for inspiration ,they show the best shadow and contour .(and no one will see you )

I also find if i inhance a picture to the pixel it also shows how colors blend together,it some how helps seeing how things connect.

maybe get good at drawing cocks and make a book for the ladies...im sure some would find it rather amusing, the sears catalogue of cocks...lmao

best of luck in your creative adventures.

start taking steroids. bring your testosterone levels up to that those of a man and looking at boobs will come easier to you. you totally won't feel bashful at all i promise :p

i used to paint and draw quite a bit and for some reason stopped and never really got going again. i've thinking for a while now about starting up that painting again, just don't really have the space for it right now though.

good luck.

Very good ideas, all of them!!

I think we draw best from things we know or have researched. That was one of the main lessons I got when working on my Fine Art degree... you need a reference point - need to draw your inspiration from something that exists already or something that has been created by a previous artist. Your art will always turn out better and more focused..

Funny story about life drawing with a nude model - My first year in Fine art (I was 18 at the time), there was this HOT spanish chick that caught everyones attention around campus... Lo and behold the day we start our drawing classes with a nude model - turns out the hot spanish chick was the model!

But within 1 minute of her tossing off her robe, the allure of this naked woman was completely lost as we were all so focused on our drawings - getting the lines right, shading, etc.

We had her for 2 weeks straight, 3 hours for drawing class, then 3 hours for painting... by the end of the week my friends and I were so sick of staring at this 'hot' spanish chick that we decided to skip class and go watch Star Wars hahaha....

I used to have body image issues and I decided the best way to tackle them was to prove to myself I wasn't ugly. I started modelling for classes and when I was standing up their buck naked and these guys, my age and attractive (I did a few video game companies' classes) were just staring intently at me but not in a checking me out kind of way, being very professional, etc, well it really did help. I learned to not be ashamed of my body and when I saw some of their sketches from previous models I saw ladies of all shapes and sizes that were peeling their clothes off for these guys and I realized that there was no need to not just love my body for what it was.

This is really true, but drawing from photographs is one of the things most drawing instructors don't recommend. They want you to master true life drawing first. Actually, my drawing instructor last semester gave anyone who used photos (and he could tell) an automatic F.
I bought a cd of figure drawing photographs...nude model with good lighting. It is helpful in seeing the SHAPE of the body, and learning to draw people without reference because the more of these photos I draw the more I intuitively know what the other parts of the body will do when I want to draw someone in a certain position.

BUT you are right insofaras a live model is much better for learning the 3D aspect of a body. Only now I get more out of those live model classes because I am not focussed so much on trying to get the angles of the body just right!

I think I heard once that Leonardo da Vinci spent years drawing draped fabric to learn about light and shadow. After that breasts would be easy.

he also handwrote everything in a mirror image thinking that noone would be able to read his notes then

when I was in grade 11 I moved halfway through the year to a different school district and with the way the classes were scheduled I had to take grade 11 english in the summer that year instead. Summerschool is awesome! So lax.

I spent the entire summer learning how to write backwards, wrote all my notes that way, didn't pay attention to the instructor at all. I can still do it. Infact when you look at my hand writing in a mirror it is actually tidier than my proper handwriting!

OK Katlyn, I`m convinced, you`re crazy like Leonardo.

I hope you will submit some artwork to the industry guide project.

https://perb.cc/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=105368

I understand you don`t like to mix up your art and your business but you don`t need to take credit for the artwork.
Though I would love to participate, the problem is that every person who makes art has a style that is recognizable. I would never submit something because most of my classmates, and all of my instructors would recognize my work even if I did not credit it.

an interesting thread at the right time for me,
i started drawing mabye seven years ago. faces,
that is all i would draw is faces. that is the only thing that really interested me,

i kind of stopped when i got into this hobby, my mind was to preoccupided i couldn't seem to focus any more,

any way, i realize how much i miss it, i think i can focus again,

and i was with a lady last night, she asked me what i like to do for a hobby, i never told her. but during the session, i just carressed and touched her face as gently as i could.
i don't know why a face interests me so,
i don't know why i would spend all that money and just want to caress a ladies face and look into her eyes.
but i did that last night, pretty much the first time, i have in this hobby.
even though that is something i wanted to do since i was ten years old. hold and caress and explore a ladies face with my finger tips.

my mind has finally quieted down enough and not preoccuppied with any physical act i guess, i can focus, what i find interesting about a lady,
her face,
and its funny that some ladies won't let me touch hold thier face, its to personal for them or what i don't know.
one lady does but it is so gentle it just makes her horny. then she won't let me touch her face anyway. she wants somthing else.
we actually got into it a bit, for fun.
i asked her to slow down for me. i just like to run my fingers up and down a ladies back, and caress her cheeks all of her cheeks, and look into her eyes.
she likes it but it just makes her horny, then we have to do other things.
i complained she said what you don't like it,
well i lost that arguement.

Also good luck on all your future endeavours!
very cool, that person obviously REALLY understands anatomy. I'm gonna have to try something like this...see if I can do anything even remotely passable!

Hey Katlyn,

For me personally, the legs and feet are what I'm best at...be it male or female. The only part I usually struggle with is the eyes. Once I nail down the silhouette, the rest kinda falls into place for me. :)

I have been drawing since childhood, so that probably gives me some kind of advantage I guess.

Once enrolled in school, I was uncomfortable at first when drawing nude men...but I got over that pretty fast, I would just kind of avoid going into any detail for his cock. As far as the ladies went, that was a whole different story.:D For all my favorites, once I was done with the pose, I'd give her strappy heels and some really sexy clothes. Not a lot, but just enough to tease the hell outta myself with it.

God how I miss life drawing!
