right here and now
Prust was a decent pick up- with Bieksa gone we needed a scrapper to share the load with Dorsett. one year left on his contract is no big deal.
Kassian was given more than enough opportunity to step up- he has only himself to blame when he flames out in Montreal. His roster spot in Van will hopefully be filled with one of the young guys- Virtannen, Shinkaruk, Gaunce etc.
Horvat should be ready for 2nd line minutes- providing he doesn't fall into a sophomore slump.
Corrado should be able to pick up some slack on defense given the opportuniy and patience from the coach.
Weber is ready for prime time- good 1 year deal at $1.5 M- if he shows us 40 points he'll be in line for a decent raise.
Bartkowski? We'll see what he has to offer- we may be pleasantly surprised.
Richardson and Mathias- thanks boys, but time to move on and give the youngsters a chance.
Higgins will be tough to move- he may get a reduced role.
Burrows is also a tough move, but he still gives 100% and is a leader and role model for the youth movement.
The Sedins will never go anywhere unless they want to and/or some GM steps up with a can't refuse offer. Great players still, great leaders and even better citizens. Any rational fan should be proud to have these guys on their team.
Miller in goal? Barring injury he should be fine. His cap hit is what it is.
Markstrom will be given a fair shake- the jury is still out on how he performs at the NHL level.
Lack for a 3rd rounder? At least we picked up a character D-man in this year's draft with the pick so that we could begin develop him now rather than a year down the line. Maybe we could have gotten a 2nd for him during this year's training camps if some team loses a goalie to injury or the like. The goalie market is fairly soft, and Vancouver fans might just over-value him a wee bit. There was no gun to Benning's head with having to deal Eddie right now, but it is telling of the organization's view of him that they acquired Miller last year instead of letting Eddie take the crease as the starter.
It's not all doom and gloom in Canuckland- we finally have a solid group of young prospects. Plugging them into a veteran core team should be good for their development, unlike some other young teams (cough, Edmonchuk!, cough).

Good analysis DD Agree with most of your points.

Though not all moves perfect, it is far too early for the doom and gloom. Let's see how training camp plays out, which of our prospects stick around. I do think Horvat will have a much bigger role this year. Very impressive last year.

Wait and see. So says sofine.

No it's not all moot. If it was moot you wouldn't be posting about it.

The canucks can't be married to the sedins and be paying alimony at the same time. Your analogy makes no sense.
I understand that you need to belittle others to make yourself feel better about your own life, but at least come up with something more original then 'sisters'.

Yes canucks may miss playoffs for the next few years. It was a surprise to everyone that they finished 8th in the league last yr.
No change there, but not all the west teams have improved since last year.
I think Calg and Edm are the only teams that have definitely improved. The rest have made marginal improvements.
LA, for instance, added lucic but they still need a top dman and have lost williams, stoll.
St Lou traded Oshie? They still need a goalie.
Have Nashv, Minn, Wpg, Dallas, Colo, San J, Arizona improved?

At this moment, the canucks are weaker than last yr. Weaker in goal because Lack is better than markstrom.
On D I'd like to see bartkowski dislodge sbisa but doubt it'll happen. They like sbisa's size.
On the right side we will be Less experienced and not as tough without bieksa, but the younger guys skate better.
Improvement at forward depends on Sven and horvat who both have top six potential.
However we need a 4th center to replace richardson. Vey is not good enough.
It's all mute

Canucks are married to the sisters and the alimony payments are of Hollywood proportions

Expect 3 straight years out of the playoffs, all the teams in the west are getting better, except for....

Could the Sedins be on the move?

Daniel Sedin’s $5.8 million Vancouver mansion up for sale

Want to live like a Vancouver Canuck? Well if you’ve got a cool $5.8 million burning a hole in your bank account, now’s your chance.

That’s how much Daniel Sedin’s asking for his five-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom mansion in Vancouver’s posh Shaughnessy neighbourhood.

According to the listing with Matt Pozer Real Estate, the Canucks left-winger’s trophy home is 4,346 square feet, three storeys tall and features “elegant oversized rooms and attention to every detail.”

The wood-framed home was completely rebuilt in 2006, and boasts a media room, games room, hot tub and swirlpool, with extra space for a wine cellar and gym.

There’s also a semicircle driveway out front and a private deck and children’s playground in the back.

Keep in mind the property taxes before rushing to purchase – Sedin had to fork over about $15,000 of his $7.6 million salary last year.

An open house was held on Thursday, but the realtor told CTV News he plans to only hold private showings going forward.

Is there one trade Benning has made you could say he won? Maybe getting second rounder for Garrison and a second rounder for Bieksa was ok…. Other than that, all the other ones I think he lost

Maybe Garrison wasn't that great or worth the money Gillis signed him to but would you not agree that he would still be much better than value Sbisa? And why would Benning give Sbisa that much money? Sbisa coughs up pucks like no tomorrow. Yes, he's physical and a hard hitter but he's not worth that kind of money
