You have to start by giving the youngster credit for being mature enough to make that kind of decision and be responsible for its consequences. It's not 1942, it's 2012. Young people are not the same young people 60 years ago, or even 20 years ago. I think we'll see a lot more 18 year old girls and guys hooking up with 40 year old men and women in the future.

No but I feel terribly sorry for the teacher's daughter who is about the same age as her new step mom. Imagine your father walking out on your family when you are 17 for the purpose of hooking up with someone about your age from your school. She is going to be scarred for life.
