As there are many reality shows to choose from, I will admit that I watch my share....from The Deadliest Catch to Ice Road Truckers..and now Restaraunt Stakeout.

A while ago I was flipping through the channels and came across Doomsday Preppers...so watched it for about 1/2 hour. It's surprising what our society is turning into. One segment showed a family in small town Alberta (mom/dad/young daughter) that lived in a townhouse and if either the mom (or dad), yelled "Holy Shit, What the Fuck" (yes, something to that extent), that the daughter (about 10 years old), was supposed to grab her knapsack and run to the basement along with her parents. They would then wait out there until things got better (in their townhouse). Can I join you in your townhouse because I know that it will be the safest one around?

I guess my point is many:
- Doomsday Preppers obviously has an audience, but can you tell us when this Doomsday is supposed to come? (I'll make sure that I buy won't go bad). Even cereal has an expiry date...along with canned food, etc.

- Are we now teaching our children to live in fear? If the world ended tomorrow because of a nuclear bomb (or other catastrophe), we wouldn't have a chance.

- Does anyone out there (in PERB land) actually know anyone who is a Doomsday prepper (or is one themselves)?
-----------
Some say that it won't be a "nuclear" end to the world, but rather a "financial" end to the world. If you are the ones left, you will have only so much food to survive...others will remember hearing how you stock piled your rations...and they will come looking for you.

It's nice to flip through the tv and see a "realistic" reality show (from fixing up a house/restaraunt and flipping it)...watching people at work (Trucking/Fishing/Police), etc....

If we start teaching our children and those who can be easily "influenced" that the end of the world is near, then we will be creating premature fear and hysteria where it doesn't really need to be.

My two cents...
