The US should release everyone in the US that is in prison for drug possession before they work to free her for drug possession.
Looks like the Russians don't really want this guy back any time soon. Wonder what else the US has to swap?

At minimum people in for possession of amounts equal or less than she took into Russia.

Pack LIGHT. 2 underwear, 2 socks, a shirt and pants. You can buy stuff there.
Upon landing you check the bag contents and seams in a bathroom before security and trash the carry-on after.
Don't stay in anything cheap. Never have any bag in your room.
Have fun...
Last day, buy a new carry-on, pack it, watch it like an espresso-fiend, go directly through security before you even think of pissing...
BUT if you do have a prison-rape fantasy, take some drugs and after trial you can 'role-play' as the bottom...

She had a prescription for the medical weed that she was as carrying. Her "crime" was being just a tiny bit famous and an American citizen when Putin is looking for any way to put a hurt on the US government for its support of the Ukraine in Russia's war with the Ukraine.
When the war is over, she will likely be quietly allowed to return to the US.

She has no one to blame but herself. You're going to another country that has laws different than your own, grow the fuck up and take responsibility for your own actions. If it weren't for the fact she's kinda famous and Ukraine war, cases like these don't get media attention.
Wasn't long ago that going across the US border with weed would end up the same way.
Different countries don't have to respect American prescription.
US Federal law still has marijuana as Class I drug that does not have it listed in any way as a medical related substance. Prescriptions do not apply to US CBP.
Since many states have legalized it, many don't realize it doesn't apply to the US Govt. I wouldn't want to attempt a crossing in possession of it.

Purely political, just like what is happening to the two Michael's in China. A US teen Audrey Lorber tried to import a much larger amount a few years ago and all she got was a month in jail. Of course, there was no war on at the time and the US wasn't sanctioning the shit out of every Russian billionaire.
They released the Michaels on September 24, 2021. But, yes, you're bang-on right - China only released them when the BC courts let that chinese woman out of home arrest.
