Was attacked by a dog while cycling in Burnaby a few days ago. Dog came out of the Robert Burnaby Park off 4th Street. Luckily, I saw it coming and hopped off my bike to keep it between me and the dog. Bastard punctured a tire, and broke a few spokes, but never got to me before it ran off down the street after a few lunges. I asked around the neighbourhood, but nobody seemed to know anybody who owned it. Was a pit bull-looking thing, dark colour. Reported it on-line to the SPCA.
Never been attacked by a dog before. I keep aware of my surroundings and most dogs I see are on leads with an owner, and have never been aggressive. It was more scary after-the-fact. I was lucky the dog didn’t keep attacking, and no other dog joined it, but the thought of a sustained attack by more than one dog is terrifying. Think I might invest in a can of pepper spray, although I’ve heard a really aggressive dog won’t even be affected by it when they get into a frenzy.
Anyone have any experience with dog attacks?
