a small logical argument that things do not exist as they appear

To prove something doesn't exist is logically very difficult if not impossible. rickoshadows
Quite simply, nothing exists on its own - all is 'empty' of inherent existence. The 'existence' of something is always relative to the 'existence' of something else. Without the illumination of the mind which all sentient beings have, there would be no perception - so what would exist in the otherwise 'darkness'? Without objects of the mind, there would be nothing to perceive - so what would exist in the otherwise dead void? Where does one draw the line between the perceiver and the perceived? So while there are countless myriads of form expressions of clear light mind, these are also empty of self-existence.

Let's go further, using modern day physics. Absolutely nothing is as it appears to be. Physics has revealed that the matter, that we take for being apparently there, is indeed mainly space and a bunch of statistical probabilities that might be infinitely small wave-particles and their interactions between. It is the creativity of the mind through its constructive senses that habitually presents the world with which we are familiar and in collective agreement as to its 'reality'.

It is possible to release oneself from the habitual views that are the basis of our material assertions. At that time, the proof is in the actual experience, not in a logical argument.

i dont know if god exist but this is a fact religion is the one thing thing that has dominated the world for the last 2000 years is religion good, bad and ugly.

some of the worlds greatest peace makers in the last 2000 years were people of faith. Look at the popes funeral all the different people and faiths brought together(to bad they cant do that for the other 364 days out of the year)

there is a reson why dictatorships try to eliminate religion, because religion gives them something no human can give them and that is hope. hope for a better future for them and for their children. Politicians fear religion or they try to use it to their benefit.

So back to the oringinal question is there a god? doesnt really matter what einstein or anybody else thought, because in the true beleavers mind there is and that is all that matters.

interesting side note in the latest galloup survey 67% of americans said they beleaved that there was a god. If they had been asked on the same survey if they beleaved in evolution probably a majority of the people would have answered in the affirmative.

oh yes the thing about karl rove he may be pudgy, but he kicked your liberal asses. hehehe

QUESTION ON CHEMISTRY MID-TERM:

Is Hell exothermic (gives off heat) or endothermic (absorbs heat)?

Most of the students wrote proofs of their beliefs using Boyle's Law (gas cools when it expands and heats when it is compressed) or some variant.

One student, however, wrote the following:

First, we will need to know how the mass of Hell is changing in time. So we need to know the rate at which souls are entering into Hell and the rate at which they are leaving. I think that we can safely assume that once a soul gets to Hell, it will not leave. Therefore, no souls are leaving.

As for how many souls are entering Hell, let's look at the different religions that exist in the world today. Most of these religions state that if you are not a member of their religion, you will go to Hell. Since there are more than one of these religions and since people do not belong to more than one religion, we can project that all souls will go to Hell. With birth and death rates as they are, we can expect the number of souls in Hell to increase exponentially. Now, we look at the rate of change of the volume in Hell because Boyle's Law states that in order for the temperature and pressure in Hell to stay the same, the volume of Hell has to expand proportionately also as souls are added.

This gives two possibilities:

1. If Hell is expanding at a slower rate than the rate at which souls enter Hell, then the temperature and pressure in Hell will increase until all Hell breaks loose.

2. If Hell is expanding at a rate faster than the increase of souls in Hell, then the temperature and pressure will drop until Hell freezes over.

So which is it?

If we accept the postulate given to me by Teresa during my Freshman year that, "It will be a cold day in Hell before I sleep with you!", and take into account the fact that I slept with her last night, then number 2 must be true. Thus I am sure that Hell is exothermic and has already frozen over.

The corollary of this theory is that since Hell has frozen over, it follows that it is not accepting any more souls and is therefore, extinct....leaving only Heaven in existence, thereby proving the existence of a divine being which also explains why, last night, Teresa kept shouting "Oh my God".
