As the titles says:

As the weather has turn I've started to cycle to and from work again. I don't claim to be any other then a fair weather rider. I got a 2006 Trek and I am looking to upgrade to a good hybrid. My spending limit would be about $1200.

Any recommendations?

Are any of you part of a cycling club? or VACC? Any ride recommendations?

I have a 2006 Oryx racing bike and I was regularly riding around the Saanich peninsula
I just gave my Brodie hybrid to a friend who commutes in Vic as I have now moved to Cobble Hill. There are many places to cycle in and around the peninsula but Saanich is just beautiful to ride thru regardless of where. Deep Cove Lochside Lane Sydney the Farmland...I could go on lol

I hope that there are several guys that ride a 2006 Oryx racing bike around Cobble Hill, or you just outed yourself ;)

I have a 1969 CCM three speed and a 1971 Norco 10 Speed which I have had both since brand new. I keep them both well maintained. I use the 10 speed for everyday use and the three speed for cruising and as a spare. Though they are well worn with both bikes I have passed lots of hardcores with their bike pants and flashy bikes. But the real bottom line is that when I take a look at my original investment and the amount of money & time I have spent on maintenance over the years, it is still cheaper than owning a car and you really do not need to spend a lot of money on a bike. I have even taken my three speed on long bike trips down the coast highway and had ten-speed companions not keep up.

In Vancouver there is Our Community Bikes on Main Street http://www.pedalpower.org which I recommend.

I second the Reckless suggestion (2nd and Fir location), but take a serious look at their own RekTek design. A perfect commuting bike in my opinion, excellent price for the level of components and they'll customize it to suit.
