I believe god resides within each of us, to believe in god is to believe in one's abilities to live life thru thought and desires.

What is God? The eternal question, something derived by man or really
something that exists? Will we ever truly know?

Being of Irish background we loved three things;
The good book, a good drink (Irish whiskey of course:D ) and a good
fight. I long ago gave up the good book though for good sex ! :D

My answer is I don't know.

Long ago there lived a tribal leader who needed a way to control his sons and his daughter's husbands.

Since they all knew he was a pedophilic, sick, manipulating bastard he had one of his slaves "discover" that there was a god.

Soon, he no longer had to worry about the people he was controlling having the ability to escape. What he didn't tax, they gave willingly to the church. If he got caught in something particularily distasteful, the church would forgive him on the holy day.

Since the people had demonstrated that they believed anything the ex boy toy slave told them, he had him denounce his wife as a witch. This worked wonderfully. They stoned her right in the church tent and demanded investigations into the possibility of there being other witches.

The people loved being told who was a witch or warlock. This was certainly better than sitting around a campfire wondering if snails are eatible.

Better still, he no longer had to sneak around to find children. The parents would send them to him. He had the "rights of the lord" to the new brides, cute little alter boys and little girls who would never tell.

The priest proved so valuable that it was decided that anyone who took the "vow of proverty" wouldn't have to pay taxes as long as they denounced the right people, told the people who to vote for and told the people how to spend any money they had.

The sky exists. If you can't see it, then you are blind.

God exists. If you can't feel it, then you're blind to your soul.

Spirit Vs. God

I think the most important thing for hamony in this world and meaning in life is to get away from polarized subscriptions to a god or gods. Sure, there is something out there, but in the words of CSNY "too many people have died in the name of (fill in deity of your choice here)".

Unless you believe that the eyeball and the opposable thumb and the frontal lobes can develop through random chance without some intelligent genetic guidance going on, then there is something out there. But what is disgusting is what "man" has turned this into and done to each other in the name of their alleged one and only supreme god. Let's face it, the religion 99% of the world subscribes to is based on where and to whom they were born. Nothing to do with choice or decision or rational thought or righteousness.

I don't think I can find god or spirituality in church, but I can find like minded seekers. To me, spirituallity is about deciding for yourself what kind of person you are going to be and why, not out of fear of hell, reward of heaven, or symbolic ritual.

So let's talk about spirit here folks. Yes, I believe there is some kind of higher spirit out there, and I don't think any of the mainstream or sideline religions can stake rational claim to it. I for one will try to honour it by demonstrating good spirit myself because it is the right thing to do. I think spirit is inside us all, god is inside us all. and people twist it to suit the needs of individuals. We are approaching an epoch where the human race is developing the courage to look beyond its comfort zone. Pooning helps us to release earthly tension and ponder these questions. Join the spirit-poon and find god!

We need a reason to understand why things happen that we can't explain any other way. Not counting alien presence.

Well, to be perfectly honest, they could have developed without any intelligent guidance... It seems unlikely to me, but it could have happened.

I agree with this totally! I don't subscribe to any organized religion, because I don't believe you can find any spiritual truth by just blindly following what you're told. Faith is important, but blind faith is foolish. I think that at the root, all (or most) religions have a kernel of truth to them. It's seeking that truth that's spiritually important, not following any specific religious dogma.

I tend to put far more trust in those who claim to be seeking the truth than in those who claim to have found it!
