I was browsing through my local sex shop, because that is what I do ;) i noticed a section devoted to cock rings. I know the theory behind how they work but do they actually work in practice. Please share your experiences and SPs what do you think of them are they a hindrance, turn-on etc?

you lose feeling so it may make you last longer, but less pleasurable.

I have used a rubber cock ring which can easily be pulled off when you want to finish. It definitely causes an blood engorged vein popping hard-on and is very good for longer sessions with your lady if she likes to keep it going.

I also have seen SP's use a similar ring to secure the condom at the base of your cock , which prevents potential skin contact from a slipping condom, not a bad idea.

Incorrectly used, a cock ring can cause damage. During an erection the blood supply in the penis is periodically exchanged ie: blood is brought back into the body and sent to be freshened (with oxygen) and new blood is pumped into the penis.

When a cock ring is on for longer than thirty minutes the blood held in the penis can coagulate and damage the very fine capillaries that engorge the corpus cavernosa and spongiosum. I have met men who have suffered from this type of damage.

On the other hand, cock rings are recommended for men who suffer from erectile dysfunction due to various health complications.

In response to sexual thoughts (...mmmm) nitric oxide is released from the Central Nervous System. The smooth muscle, which normally is contracted and keeps blood out of the penis, relaxes and blood flows into the chambers. When a penis is erect the blood vessels are stretched and shut themselves off trapping blood in the penis.

Damage to the Central Nervous System (auto-immune disorders, cocaine and ecstasy use, head and spinal injury) will fuck this all up, as will poor diet and lack of exercise.

With a cock ring the penis will feel cold, and it often creates a 'hinge' at the base of the penis, so it will flop about, and can cause a lot of 'missing' during rapid thrusting coitis.

But, for those who find viagra does not help with maintaining an erection, cockrings are excellent...30 minute maximum! (also, for premature ejaculators, a ring can slow things down and create a longer plateau phase before orgasm)

My first experience (with a porcelain ring placed just under the head) was painful, and it took years to try it again.

I would be cautious using this with clients. It would depend on the experience and temperament of the gentleman.

I wouldn't allow use in a session. Not even the disposible ones.
What possible reason would drive this reaction?
HOGWASH!!!

Valid answer.
Rings do keep the blood in & keep your erection.

Longer than 30 minutes is not recommended if it is a tight ring
(they come in different sizes)

I'm curious about why. Is it a hygiene thing? If so, that totally makes sense.
What hygiene thing?
They're disposable!
The metal, silicone & rubber ones can be washed in anti-bac soap etc.

Not to try & speak for all the ladies, but I would think that (a) they take pride in providing providing pleasure to their clients and (b) many would not want to be beaten sore by an insensitive organ for the entire duration of the session. The use of such a device reduces (a) and increases the likelihood of (b). This could then possibly affect the quality of session for their next client that day. As I might be that next client, I support the ladies who choose to say no.
Sorry, the above story line just does not fit reality for me.
I have used a ring on occasion due to a spinal injury
(caused by a driver turning in front of me on my bike)
Mmhmm. And the disposable ones can sometimes cause a condom to roll up if put on improperly. Not willing to take the risk.
Au contraire, mon fem décalé

Anyone above the IQ of an idiot should know that the ring goes on over or below the condom.
Not under it!
