Do disinfectants like rubbing alcohol and stuff of that nature work to prevent any kind of STDs after sex?
Hi wpgman69
I have never found any research that shows that washing or using cleaners after sex will prevent STI.
It does make sense that if you have someone else’s body fluid on you that it would be a good idea to wash it off. Similar to how you would wash your hands. Using soap and water or something like a baby wipe would not be a problem.
Situations I think that could cause a problem would be if some one used a strong cleaner that would break down the skin or tried to clean the vagina e.g. douche. This could result in your bodies natural defenses being damaged and making it easier for an STI to get into your body at a later date.
I see this in the clinic were people use hard cleaners, washed too much or scrubbed hard. This can damage the skin.
