Are there risks to having you pubic hair removed around your anus, scrodum and shaft of your penis via laser hair removal? If no risks is it painful?

Hi Mongo

Laser hair removal is not within my specialty area but what I can do is give you some general information about this.

It seems that laser hair removal is a popular procedure.

In a book I found on dermatology it lists the main side effects of laser hair removal as erythema (redness of the skin), edema (swelling), blistering, hypo/hyper pigmentation (loss of skin color or darkening of skin color), scarring and skin infections.

Health Canada regulates laser devices that are sold in Canada for medical purposes so that they are safe and effective when used.

The only problem is that there appears to be little regulation around who can use these lasers. Given this I think one of your biggest risks is getting laser hair removal from someone who does not know what they are doing. This means you should do some homework when looking for someone to do the procedure.

Here is an interesting article in the Canadian Medical Association Journal titled “ Laser hair removal a risky business in need of regulation, expert says” . It gives a good over view of the industry in canada.
