I have direct tv from USA using it in canada but want to upgrade to a dvr receiver but direct tv wants to install it after I receive it but how do I avoid that cause I'm afraid of getting my service cut off cause it's not in the USA anyone done this before it's not an illegal pirated dish had it for yrs when I moved here or can I buy the same thing here that will work on my direct tv

Get it shipped to a US address and bring it across the border yourself. Tell them you are technically competent and install it yourself.

Ahhh this brings back memories. First the big mesh dish, Direc TV with the first pizza dishes and juiced cards and my favourite, the juiced Free to Air boxes for Dish Network (and a certain Cdn provider). Anything to watch all my NY Rangers and NY Mets games, and of course ESPN. My buddies would always come over to watch the porn and the WWF pay per views for free. Still got a closet full of old boxes and cards and I must still be in denial coz I haven't taken the dishes down off my house. Well maybe more cause I am too lazy. :violin:
i have dish using nfps. $50 a year to connect to an iks server with my nanosat fta receiver. most channels available. porn, ufc ppvs (dish dumped wwe ppvs after the wwe network launched). the odd ecm occurs every couple weeks, but they get it back up pretty quick. directv is the days of the fully hacked HU card was the best. Everything open. Only thing you had to worry about were blacklisted cams, and looping. remember my old t911 unlooper. To the OP, I assume you are subbing to directv with a us address sub?? If some miracle has occurred and you are using a hack, please pm me. There have always been rumors of a deep underground hack of the new cards, but most likely just a fairytale.
I gather your living in the usa so its like trying to get Hockey Night in Canada in America or any hockey unless its the playoffs in the usa,the only way you can get hockey in usa is go to a casino in Vegas or subscribe to Centre ICE which is a real ripoff, here if you want to watch your favorite NFL team other then the Seahawks you have to subscribe to NFL sunday which also is a big ripoff + have you ever watched the Superbowl with cdn commercials + try to watch auto racing there is none but NASCAR but actually our TV service is pretty good but you have to pay for this + that and still can't get certain channels because of the stupid Canadian content law but we have Darts,but original post was to just try and record shows with a dvr receiver that I can watch later without programming my old tape eating vcr
I have Directv and its and excellent provider. I use to get NHL Center Ice just to watch the Ducks but opted out this year. After 2 years of blowing game 7 at home in the playoffs I got tired of being played with and will just watch the playoffs for free.
