Recently I talked to a guy who has to go to one of these....down in Mexico to a 5 star all inclusive resort....much like me the guy never takes vacations...BUT...this is a wedding...he said to the bride & groom that he could not afford it and then he was guilted into going....he asked if he could book his own trip etc online and was told that he HAD to book his trip through the travel agent that the couple are using which the same thing applies to the other 16 guests....and why is that....because the bride & groom get 4 free tickets if a so many people attend....they could use those 4 free tickets(as well as the hotel rooms) to help out people who cant afford to go....they are not doing that though....they are using 2 and are saving the other 2 to take another vacation later on....so they get the nice tropical wedding/vacation and they also get another one within a year and they force everyone else to take a vacation and spend a shitload of money on something that they had not planned on doing as it is beyond the means of most of them......that is pretty selfish I think.

To top it off the bride & groom plan to hold a reception AFTER they get back so as to harvest wedding presents from the people that took an unplanned vacation to Mexico.

Personally I think this is total BS.....the couple skimp on the wedding and fuck off to Mexico for a vacation and emotionally blackmail people to attend and in so doing get 2 free trips and then they have the stones to host a lousy party to get more.....total douchebag move in my opinion.......I am of the opinion that "destination weddings" were invented by some C*N% like kim kardashian.

Your thoughts?

I hate that couple without ever meeting them. Nor would I ever want to without insulting them to their faces.

Guilt is such a useless emotion and personally I would say "have a nice time" and that's it.

They just reek of greed.

Side note:

A friend of mine has gone through the same thing with his sister and new brother in law.

Stag was a "week" long event in Vegas.

Bride's party was a spending spree in NYC. $$$$$$

Wedding was in Toronto while they all live in Ottawa. First Class travel plus Five Star hotel in YYZ for 100+ people.

Their father who could not afford all this stuff paid for it. It aged him 20 years.

They are no longer speaking to each other. Total dysfunctional family BS. I hate greed.

I have attended a destination wedding in the past, but it wasn't like that at all.

The bride and groom requested a very small number of immediate family and very close friends to attend to their special moment. The info was given to the date and venue. The travel agent put together a package that was competitively priced when compared to internet specials, but we booked on line anyways.
We were given advance notice, so if planning an annual vacation, could use this event to justify a trip to this specific location.

The above couple sound like a bunch of pigs.

I agree with you storm rider, very inconsiderate. Even if the guests could save up over a long period of time, who says they'd ever even want to go to Mexico? Personally, I would be very unlikely to ever choose a resort vacation on my own accord. I'm much more of a history and culture sight see-er kind of gal, not so much a lying on the beach type. (I don't know how to swim and I hate the sun- damn ginger skin!) I'm sure I'd still have a blast, and of course I'd want to support my friends or family, but if it's not somewhere you'd pick on your own then it is still kind of an inconvenience, especially if you have to cut back on things you actually enjoy to set aside money for a trip you would never normally have taken. Wouldn't we all love a wedding in Paris? But I would never even consider it more than 2 seconds because I know my family and friends couldn't afford it, and that doesn't bother me one bit because having the people you care about around you for such a special day is what's important, not where it is or how fancy it is. Ah well, some people's kids eh!

Isn't "OP" (Original Poster) the standard convention? Heh heh heh

SR, if you are considering changing to TS, please don't skimp on the boob job. It will make or break your career. Oh, and false teeth is always a nice option... And please take the hormones and some voice training classes. I tell ya, there's almost nothing worse than a TS with a deeper voice than mine. Remember your target audience here: most of us want a lady with a cock. If we wanted a man with boobs we would just be gay. Good luck! Let me know when your web site is up! You will advertise on PERB, right?

PS: Your "friends" are total douche bags. I'm guessing they both work as telemarketers. Or meter maids. Either way, they should be used to being told to "Fuck Off". Once more surely won't hurt...

LOL..TS(thread starter) but I can see your point :pound:

..............but then ol' Hunka is not exactly your standard individual...........:pound:...though with the right plastic surgeon nobody has to be standard......:p

On the destination weddings, I can see the point of them for the couple, but for them to expect friends or family to go out of the way to attend, no. If they want to pick up the costs, no problem.

I agree with these comments, classless move by this couple.

A friend of mine had a destination wedding a few years ago and they did it a little better. They gave both sets of parents tickets to the cruise and arranged a special price for others who wanted to attend and got nothing free themselves. The invitation was an opportunity to join them, in other words no expectations but if you are taking a cruise in 18 months we are having our wedding and you can book this cruise and get 25% off.

I thought it was very fair and a few took them up on the offer. It is highly unfair to place that type of financial burden on someone. The above example was even worse since the couple was actually profiting and setting up another vacation on the backs of their friends. I doubt the marriage will last long enough to use the second set of tickets.

I think he/she might already be on the hormones and possibly overdosing, she/he seems to always be in a constant pms mode

Maybe this explains the Miata

I sorta had a destination wedding this summer, although not the type most people would think of. I had gone into some slight debt to be able to attend the wedding of a family member. It didnt help that I just got out of school and went back into the workforce a few weeks earlier. To make matters worse, I was asked for money(which I didnt have) since they didn't want a gift. When asked how much they would like, I got '"everybody else is giving us XXXX, but its really up to you...". I was a little outraged since I traveled 12 hours to see my family, incurred the cost of travel and time off, but still gave them what they were hoping to get.

When I got back home a couple days later, I did the one thing that I never thought I would be doing. I was forced to sell my car(regardless of its actual value) so I was able to quickly pay off the debt along with my LOC I needed to give them a present. In hindsight, I should have done what alot of people did and gave them double what the meal was worth and that was it. What they asked for and received from alot of guests were in the territory of 20x the cost of the meal. The people essentially paid for the wedding, and they still made money off of it.

I thought the point of a destination wedding was a bunch of family wouldn't be able to attend so the result was less drama... ;)
haha. so true! Keep the drama to a minimum by pricing the crazy aunts, uncles, 3rd wives, and drunks out of the wedding.
