Untergang

I saw it the night it opened. It is a good movie. It is a movie and not a documentary. I had some minor quibbles with it but it is certainly well made.

Having seen it, I don't understand all the concern about humanizing Hitler. The Hitler character(Ganz) came off as a pathetic personality, and seemed to me, deserving of the fate he received. The personalities and actions of the inner circle were facinating to watch. The swirl of chaos happening outside the little concrete cacoon was an intriguing contrast. In non-Hollywood fashion, the ending wasn't wrapped up into a neat little bow. I enjoyed that.

Some may find it a lttle dark but I would recommend it.

Thanks for the review. I'm gonna watch it this weekend.

The concern about humanizing Hitler is that the liberals want to maintain the idea of Hitler being the devil. They had to make fuss over it so that they would win more votes, its all politics. Besides this movie might extend different idea of Hitler and that would be wrong, wouldn't it ;) ?

I've seen few trailers about the movie, and I'm not sure they are humanizing Hitler there. There was an episode when Hitler was all shaking and screaming "They will pay with their own blood" :p

Oh fuhrer...

The concern about humanizing Hitler in a movie is that to this day there are many people around the world who think he had the right idea. There's plenty of neo-nazis over here in North America. and way to many in Europe. The Germans are very touchy about their past. Even today, giving the Hitler salute in Germany is illegal (I think, I know they do have laws about anything Nazi, but I'm not absolutely certain about what is considered illegal.) Too many Germans have personal connections to the Nazis that the government is very leery of anything that makes Hitler look anything less then the Antichrist.

er tugedun ist nicht so ausserordentlich

Haven't seen the movie but I would like to, as I'd get the chance to brush up on my German

The problem with movies about ww2 Germany is that they’re distorted with 2-dimensional stereotypes.
Hitler is a cliché, embellished with a theatric evil that make him appear more extraordinary than is the case. Evil is not a towering paragon as we are accustomed to see in the movies but in truth a mask hiding ignorance and banality. Like reading history about Attila the Hun who “killed the very grass he stood upon”.

If the goal is to dispel the mystique of Hitler, it would be better to portray the man as he really was.

In the book “The psychopathology of Adolf Hitler” by a Psychiatrist whose name escapes me said that he, Hitler was a “narcissistic borderline personality with paranoid features and who suffered from mono-orchidism” He had only one ball and couldn’t sustain an erection. (That nazi salute reflected an attempt to overcompensate)

"er tugedun ist nicht so ausserordentlich" he is afterall not so extraordinary

I'm mildly concerned. You have made posts stating that you have trouble relating to women, that your views are too "extreme right-wing" to get involved with discussions with your peers, and that your sexual fantasies are right out of "Ilsa -- She Wolf of the SS."

You might want to play down the Nazi/Fascist fixation in order to hit it successfully with the college girls, and you might want to socialize with a variety of others of your age and actually listen to their views and ponder your own...you are young, after all.

I realize that you may not be some budding white power advocate, and you aren't from Alberta :) .... But...if your head is shaved, and you favour camos and Doc Martens...I would be genuinely worried if I was your dad.

Man, I'm just so fascinated by the nazis, I can't help it. Though, yeah I agree - many girls find it disturbing, though some find it very romantic

To be quite honest - many people of my age don't have any views :( .Its sad really, there are noone to talk to. Sometimes you met some lame-brain liberal, and when I try to say some positive things about Reich, he/she put a "nazi" label on me. How do you socialize with them? I found a solution though - I keep my mouth shut.

You have to admit - the SS had the coolest uniform!

No I don't have shaved head nor docs. I have Grinders, but don't get me wrong - I wear them for fashion. FYI most NS skinheads don't wear their "uniform" because now everyone knows how it looks like. They prefer casual style so that you wouldn't recognize them out of many people, many of them don't even have shaved head.

Maybe you meant "Psychology of domination"? I have this book, but there are three personalities - Stalin, Hitler and Napoleon.

Yes you are right there alot of pro-nazi, nazi-like or just people who thought Hitler was right. However, if they unite (fortunately or unfortunately but they have alot of differences they can't deal with) and become a single party, and if they would have become a majority - they have good chances to seize the power. You would have no choice but to live with them. That is the major flaw in democracy,
