New guy on the board here but not new to the scene. Legitimately asking what’s the deal with more and more SPs asking for a deposit if you haven’t seen them before. I understand their need to guarantee a booking, but it seems to me just too risky to provide, if you know where I’m going with that thought. SPs who put out good ads, are pretty good at what they do, seem to be resorting to this too. I’d be interested in people’s thoughts, even SPs who roam these boards are free to answer.

Some restaurants and many other businesses require a deposit. Some require a cancellation fee. Unfortunately no one pays those when we request them because we aren’t respected like other businesses.

It is what it is bro. Most are tired of fake bookings and time wasters. Just pick a reputable provider/shot that has more to lose than the deposit is worth. For instance if somebody asks you for $40 or $60 deposit and they scam you, what are you going to do? You got it! First thing you're going to do is come back on here and blast them for everybody to see. Then some curious regulars might even call them up and ask him what's the deal with that.

It's not worth their time scamming you for a couple of bucks if it's a big shop. Most shops also have the option to pay in cash if you want to hide your bank info and not send EFT. Good luck out there. Even I had to do the deposit game at the beginning. 🤣
