Dental Clinic
Hours of Operation
The dental clinic in our new Nobel Biocare Oral Health Centre will be open during the academic year from the end of August until the end of June, although our third, fourth year and graduate periodontics programs have staggered finish dates.
We generally have two clinics per day during the term period, the morning clinic which operates from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. and the afternoon clinic from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.
We are closed during the Christmas Break, generally from the second week in December to the first working day after New Year's. We do operate an emergency clinic for UBC patients during the Christmas Break and also during the summer hiatus.
There are some graduate programs that offer service throughout the calendar year.
Fees
The UBC Dental clinic operates at reduced fees. Our fees are approximately 20 to 40% less than those in the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia Fee Guide 2000. It is important to note that there are both Student and Faculty UBC Fee guides. Depending on whether a student dentist or a licensed dentist performs the treatment, the appropriate fees would apply.
Patients with dental insurance are responsible for paying their accounts to the clinic directly and later will be reimbursed by their dental plan, except for those patients with Blue Cross Insurance coverage. Patients who qualify for government assistance should obtain the necessary authorization of eligibility before treatment begins. The clinic will collect from the government agency directly.
Our Facility
The new Nobel Biocare Oral Health Centre at UBC uses state-of-the-art technology and an innovative architectural design to create a sophisticated, efficient space for learning, community service and research. The dental clinic in the Oral Health Centre provides the setting for the clinical practice component that is required for the completion of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) requirements and graduate programs. The scope and extent of treatment provided must conform to the parameters delineated by the Canadian Dental Association through their Accreditation process. The Faculty is experiencing growth in the number of students enrolled in its undergraduate and graduate programs and recognizes, with the University at large, that a new clinical facility is essential.
Location
The new Nobel Biocare Oral Health Centre is situated at the intersection of University Boulevard and Wesbrook Mall. The main entrance is accessed off of Wesbrook Mall, near the corner.
