Hi there and thanks for reading this!
I'm thinking about heading for Vancouver for holidays and am curious what the folks on here think are better areas & hotels in and around the Vancouver area may be. I'm not looking for high end-more something reasonable with decent access for getting to places to see.
Thanks again!

hey warpd....all i remember from my corporate days...was this wicked cool hotel right in downtown vangroovie....there's some houseboats out in ladner but I never did that....there's a million neat places!...

but...as I was drinking and I enjoyed waking up to take a walk on the dock....and, if budget matters, this is reasonable....

Travelling with family or on your own ? Granville Isle Hotel is o.k., but note "Isle". Kind of away from things. Visitors usually do end up on Granville Isle for at least part of a day when they visit, but not a holiday type of hotel. If on your own, then you might want to try the Holiday Inn Howe, Chateau Granville ( A Best Western ), Marriot or Landis on Hornby, Executive Inn, Travellodge or Best Western by the Granville Bridge, Century Plaza, Blue Horizon on Robson, Barclay's on Robson. These are mostly mid-range hotels in the City core with easy access to most of the City attractions. Most are also pretty reasonable about "visitors."

I've gotten good deals for friends at the Coast hotel on Denman (really cool in the summer, as its right by the beach) it also has an awesome gym, and also the Georgian Court, which is really nice but has good rates 'cause its kinda off to the side of downtown.

If keeping costs down is motivating, a very decent place to stay near 12th and Oak is Shaughnessy Village Bed and Breakfast. Not too far from the downtown. It's actually a high-rise building of mini-suites with a bedsitting, bath and galley layout.

used to be fantastic for the location. A family hotel that'd seen better days (like, no screens in the windows & no AC or fans in the rooms), the location on English Bay & so close to Stanley Park is fantastic for tourists, especially when there's anything going on at English Bay (fireworks, festival, etc.). Or when there's not.

I haven't stayed there in a few years, they may have renovated (& raised prices). I remember it as being cheaper than the prices on their site.

is also a cheap hotel, a bit run down, but in a fantastic location for those who like shopping on Robson. I'd think it'd be hard to beat their price, almost regardless of the location.

& I've always had good results from seeing the reviews of places at http://www.tripadvisor.com/

Personally, I now stay at:

in the beautiful, untouched wild lands of Vancouver on Hastings St. to save more of my money to give to the friendly Hell's Angels & lovely SPs of BC in exchange for er...ummm.... things I'm more interested in than nice hotels.

Housing's a bitch there

I think I have investigated every hotel in Vancouver over the last month. I finally got a room at the Sheraton Wall Center. I have always liked Starwood Hotels and if you go to their webpage and become a member you can usually earn enough points in one visit to get a free night at a later date. Anyway it was the best deal for location, rates and a decent bed.

cool recommendations citylover....those are my kinda hotels....bbcanada.com or something similar is, as I recall, also an excellent place to find some quirky places in any city you ever wanted to visit.

are taxes things you use to hold paper up on the wall?
