My upstairs neighbours seem to play the same music, with the same obnoxious thumping base line...every day, all day long. Graaaah! It used to be that I could only hear it in the living room, so at least I could escape...but all morning, it's been so damn loud that I have a bloody headache.

I seriously need batmans little clicker from the last movie...

I could toletate it if they just varied it up a bit...but no, it's always the SAME. *facepalm*

Next in line is the people downstairs who feed the "squirrels", which are responsible for my almost getting sprayed by skunks on a regular basis because of all the peanuts they scatter near the building entrance.

So, what gripes do you folks have with your neighbours?

Maybe... pets might do something like that, or maybe they have a pet ghost :p I can understand how that would get on your nerves. How long does it go on for?

Melody, does your upstairs neighbour walk around in heels? It could be someone sitting down and then tapping the heel on the floor in an absent minded fashion. My sisters ex never could sit still; his leg would always bounce.

Missy, ach... I feel for you. My down stairs neighbour has the same habit of having the tv up quite high.. yet, strangely enough, they could hear well enough to complain to the building managed that I "thumped' up and down the stairs when I entered/exited the building.

<<< dear lord...they're playing it AGAIN!>>

I have owned a couple of investment condo's and get the complaint letters from the Strata's that my renters have been reported on.

Couple of things I do is check out the stories of the complainant, the renters and the Strata manager or Management company to see if the facts line up correctly.

If they are right, I send a registered letter to the renters. I have only had to do that once. Never had an issue since.

BUT on numerous occasions I have found that the complainant had nothing better to do than write false letters of complaints.

One was when I had an older lady living in the apartment and did not have any family. The man downstairs complained about children running around the apartment and down the hallway at all times of the day and night. Her only comment was "I wish I did have grand children who would do that but I don't".

Other one was when the complainant charged that huge parties were going on til 3 AM Thursday through Sunday Nights and specified the actual dates of the incidents. Turned out my renters at that place were not even in the country and the place had sat empty for three weeks. I told that strata management never to send me complaint letters again unless they had actually checked the facts first. That complainant apparently was unhappy with her lease and was trying to squeeze money out of me to pay for her moving expenses to a cheaper location. I met her in the downstairs parking lot when she was moving out and called her a liar and an attempted thief.

Condos always have weirdos.
My building is almost completely sound proof, but you still get bored people complaining.

I got a letter about noise a week after I first got my place. From the strata in the form of a spreadsheet from my downstairs neighbour.
Problem was over 2/3rd of the complaint times/dates were before I owned the place and it was brand new.
As well as a couple complaints before the people downstairs even lived there either. They moved in a couple weeks before I did.

The lady next door complained she can hear my clothes dryer late in the evening. Not from her bedroom or living room, but only if she is in her bathroom.
Then she can faintly hear it.

The only time I ever made a complaint was when I noticed our underground parking always stunk. I though a homeless man was breaking in at night as using the place as a toilet. It really stunk. One day I saw a lady walking her dog down there, cause it was raining.....so the underground parking was her dogs toilet. She got really mad when I said something to her.

Then magically a month later I get a letter, cause I have been seen walking MY dog in the parking lot. Even though I have never owned one. Wonder who.

I also have some light tapping noises above me...At first, I thought maybe the neighbour was laying new carpet, but it continues on an irregular basis...

Same neighbour can't figure out not to pour liquids down the patio drain (there are comments to this effect in every monthly newsletter, but I guess you'd have to be able to read English to get the picture)...guess where it drains to? out the side of the balconies, cascading the water on to the balcony below! I've had to shout up there about my displeasure on 3 occasions already...

So, dumb joke time.

A young lad from the Scottish highlands goes down to London to find work. After a while, he finds work and a place to live, and writes home to his folks:

Dear Mother and Father:
Things are going well - found a good job and and affordable flat. Interesting city, but the folk here are SO weird.

Take my next door neighbor - He seems like an angry fellow - always cursing and banging on the wall.

And the girl next door - bonny enough, but spends the whole night through weeping and wailing.

But as for me, I take no notice - I keep myself to myself and practice my bagpipes every night!

my condo is in a concrete building, so pretty much dead silence all the time - until my neighbours upstairs decided to rip out the carpeting and put in laminate flooring

now i hear a faint staccatto right through the concrete when the lady is wearing heels

Living in a condensed city always comes with noise polution. Some noises can be explained others are left up to the imagination. My favourite was a dumpster diver who would walk the alley every night...when he found a can or bottle he would yell out BINGO or JACKPOT if he found multiples...made me laugh...before you buy a condo or town house in a complex that is governed by a strata...make it a condition of the purchase to view the strata reports to see how much 'noise' is in the building...you may be buying the condo of the most hated person and inherit all of the old bitter history...

back when the canucks were in the play off finals - i always knew when the canucks scored (not a big sports fan so wasnt watching)
someone outside would always blast one of those compressed air can blow horns. i would then switch to the game to watch the replay.
always knew when they won a game as that brought on an extra long blast.

the worst one for me (being accused of noise when i was innocent) new neighbour upstairs. i started getting notes at my door telling me to cut
out the late night noise. Even had the manager on their side. said i was making machinery noises from midnight to 5 am every night.

Manager saw my weight machine in the bedroom and tried to say i am working out all night. umm ya sure. i work during the day. up at 6am. besides i would think
the downstairs neighbour would complain about this not the upstairs.... manager would not believe me...until

one day at the elevator, there is a window over lookiing the building next door, i pointed out to the manager that along the wall in almost the exact spot the upstairs neighbour said the noise was coming from is
big industrial size heating/airconditioning units. never heard anything about it after that.

It's faint and fades in and out. I would say it goes on for an hour at least.
I am good at tuning out stuff like that though, so it doesn't but me as much as it would some. But it really makes me wonder WTF it is!!
It's the people who live inbetween the walls! Don't you watch horror movies? :)

I had an adorable little devil child who lived above me in an apartment building. She had the face of an angel.. was shy and soft spoken in person... but a hell raiser behind closed doors. Her mother was a single working parent... church goer... who never raised her voice.. or swore ever. I had tea with her several times, and babysat as well. For some godly reason this angel faced little girl was uncontrolable.. She never went to bed cursed like a trucker... from watching t.v when her mom was sleeping (Im guessing).. She threw things against the wall when her mother tried to put her to bed.. and jumped on the trampoline in the middle of the night as well :(

I just put up with it as I kind of thought that god was balancing out the world.. I can be a bit noisy at times and some times do thing in the middle of the night ( move furniture around).. and I never had complaints from the elderly lady downstairs because she was deaf !!!!! :)

We used to have an old bastard living a few doors down in our apartment block. Yelled at us as we moved in, and then 5 years later, as we were moving out he did the exact same thing. But this time, I told him exactly what I thought of him....

Prick...

This guy had a balcony looking out over the front entrance of the building - he used to curse & scream at people who would park in front of it (like delivery drivers, and such) who were just running in. He used to call him The Pope, because he was always preaching from his pulpit....

I used to have a guy like that at one of the condo's I owned. He was forever getting up people's noses about trivial little shit.

It didn't turn out so well when one day I called him a fucking Nazi considering he is from Germany. He later got on the strata and then proceeded to snow me with complaints.

One complaint he put under my door was about a single drop of oil from a visitors car. Rather than clean it up, I went downstairs and photographed 57 stalls with oil stains. I emailed them to him and demanded to see the complaint letters that they also received. Turned out one of the stalls was from his VW.

Any time I got in the elevator with him I would smile at him and laughingly ask him how he is enjoying all his power on strata.

Some people have way too much time on their hands, and aren't happy unless they are ruining other people's lives... the very definition of "asshole"

This weird tapping sound. It doesn't move around while it's happening, it's like they're tapping a pencil on a desk or bouncing a marble on the floor. But it happens in different areas of the apt, at different times. One night it'll be at the front by my patio door, then the next morning it's in the back over my bed. It's just weird. Then one day it started dragging around the floor...maybe they have cats?
Okay that creeped me out. Actually had this overwhelming feeling to look over my shoulder.

Seriously.
