I have done some research to get an understanding, but I feel like I am reading conflicting opinions. According to this old article what most pooners are doing is illegal. No question about it.

https://ca.news.yahoo.com/blogs/dailybrew/what-is-and-is-not-legal-under-canadas-new-200231637.html

But I am reading here that it is kind of an unsettled matter and Police here in Van are waiting for legislation on the issue unless it involves kids or some other crimes are involved. I mean if the Yahoo article is correct then how does this stand knowing that the current standing of the law makes pooners easily subject to blackmail...I guess its seen part of the 'punishment' against pooning. But since when do we allow non-legal entities dole out consequences to offenders.

Blackmail? I suspect police would be more interested in arresting people trying to extort you.

One way around this nonsense is to send a text in your car before you go meet at the SP location that says:
- just to be clear, I am hiring you for your time. What we chose to do together in that time is not part of payment.

...probably phrase it better by looking up so.e legal words.

Just seemail regulars and there is never any question of what you are there for and it never mentioned what you are paying her for.
No law is broken.

@the Meat Market!!!lol
this is an article from 2014.....it does outline the truth about the new laws though....

in vancouver however, the vpd are not enforcing the new law...police have what is known as "discretion" in terms of applying laws they feel are unjust or have the potential to cause harm to people....cpd have used their discretion in terms of the prostitution laws and are not enforcing what they as a harmful and dangerous law which will put people at risk.

their policy is outlined on the website...

According to the law (Bill C-36), buying sex is illegal in Canada.

It seems that Vancouver police have not been enforcing this law when it regards consentual adult sex.

I've never heard of a case of blackmail in this business. Though the possibility of it existed before Bill C-36 became law.

Bill C-36, which follows Nordic model, allows ladies to sell their peach but makes it illegal for men to buy it.
Absolutely genius idea right? I mean if a wealthy person has a one night rendezvous with another person and the latter wanted to squeeze some money out of the wealthy person they could simply claim that their encounter involved sale of sexual services as opposed to a non-transactional encounter...an easy come up. The escorts that only exist to scam can setup clients to be robbed by someone else at their location and the client can't do anything. Maybe the client could be assaulted in the midst of a robbery they would have to go home and lick their wounds. In fact there is an SP on LL who does exactly this knowing that the client can't go to the police so she sets up one client after another only to be robbed by another male who is present at the incall. Sounds like some one sided third world law...

They will eventually come across the wrong type to extort and learn quickly it is them who will be in need of the protection from the law and not the op they are extorting.

Paranoid much? Can you name ONE person who has been arrested since this law came into being? If anything, there is less LE involvement it seems than a few years back. Cracking down on the micros that get involved with the trafficking shit is GREAT and hopefully over time those who "manage" women will be driven out too but as far as the men who partake, all of this angst but do you ever hear of an actual person impacted?

More likely you will get a traffic ticket on the way to your session.

After Bill C-36 became law back in 2014 there were many hobbyists recommending people with such worries see SP's who are well known & reviewed.

Recently i've seen a few reports re robberies. Whether they have increased since 2014 is unclear.

No doubt many pre 2014 robberies related to this business were not reported to LE for various reasons. In most cases the loss is no more than a few hundred dollars. Many clients would not have wanted to involve LE or get involved with them re such a small amount of cash.

The con artist who is trying to blackmail the "wealthy person" might find themselves in prison for blackmail & the "wealthy person" happy to have provided the community service of helping with that. In Vancouver & similar places across Canada LE might even congragulate him & not charge him with anything. Even if he is fined for buying sex, it could be a trivial amount to a "wealthy person". Such people often hire lawyers good enough to win a case in court.

A person intent on blackmail needs your personal info to ID you. You can choose not to give out this info, if blackmail concerns you. You can also save messages that speak of paying for time, not sex or specific services, etc.

On the flip side, there's been a big increase on clients who refuse even basic screening. Makes it dangerous for providers who do screen, and those that don't. Sexwork needs to be completely decriminalized so that it's safer for everyone involved.
