If you cross the North Korean border illegally you 12 years hard labour.
If you cross the Iranian border illegally you are detained indefinately.
If you cross the Afghan border illegally, you get shot.
If you cross the Saudi Arabian border illegally you will be jailed.
If you cross the Chinese border illegally you may never be heard from again.
If you cross the Venezuelan border illegally you will be branded a spy and your fate will be sealed.
If you cross the Cuban border illegally you will be thrown into political prison to rot.
If you cross the Canadian border illegally, you get:

a job,
a driver’s licencse
social insurance card
welfare
counselling
language training
credit cards
subsidized rent
free education
free health care
and the right to burn our flag.

I just wanted to make sure I have a firm grasp on reality.

Care to give an example? When I worked in staffing I found that immigrants needed quite a bit of paperwork before we would consider them for a job.

These 3 countries don't have clearly defined borders. People who live in the border regions cross the border daily.
They only stop smugglers.

China has a very porous border. Shared with a lot of countries. And a very, very large migrant population. If people are never heard from, it's because they don't have a cell phone.

Cuban border...um, yeah.

Show me one illegal immigrant in Canada with a social insurance card. I'd like to know how they got one. Or welfare. Or a job that wasn't under the table for a pittance, ie, sweat shop.

I also don't think one needs proof of ciitizenship for a driver's licence or access to education. Perhaps an immigrant here could enlighten us. or someone familiar with our system.

My thoughts exactly on the copypasta charge. I've seen this little spiel before, only with slightly different wording. And think about this: we only share our land border with the US. Everyone not coming from or through there has to go through customs at the airport. So maybe we need to be on the lookout for Americans terkin er jerbs! X-)

Yeah, I have to add a firm dose of reality when I get into arguments with Americans about this particular rant of theirs and these 'facts' they fabricate.

Also, yeah -- the whole fetish about flags is also an American thing. No one here really does it.

And yes, you don't have to be a citizen to get a DL, Care Card, or schooling, but you do need your legal resident papers from Citizenship and Immigration Canada. They don't just give it to anyone. And for jobs -- if it's not a cash-in-hand under-the-table deal (which is illegal even for citizens, so cut the holier than thou crap, anyone who thinks otherwise) -- those require proper documents too, not least so CPP, EI and income tax can be withheld.

As a caucasian of Irish and French descent I can assure you that my ancestors crossed many a border illegally. There wouldn't be first nations land claims if they hadn't.

Seems like every few months, I see this thread pop in in the forums I belong too.

Oh no, the illegals are coming to ruin our way of life and take our shitty jobs we don't want to do ourselves anyways.

I also can't stand when they have their little social functions with all the hooping and hollering, and before you know it, all the flags are on fire and they're shooting their guns off in the sky, and Saddam and Osama are doing a jig (as long as we're making shit up), and they bring their 13 wives and sacrifice a virgin to their gods...all this while I, as an average Canadian has to pay 35% in taxes.
